John Travolta shares tribute to Olivia Newton-John on what would have been her 74th birthday

John Travolta shared a special tribute to Olivia Newton-John on his Instagram story earlier Monday on what would have been her 74th birthday.

The Grease actor, 68, remembered his former co-star and close friend by wishing her a happy birthday.

The actress passed away suddenly on August 8 last month after her breast cancer returned as stage four in 2017. Her death sparked a wave of tributes as people around the world mourned her death.

The Saturday Night Fever star has uploaded a photo of both Olivia and himself of their iconic roles as Danny and Sandy from the 1978 musical film Grease.

He typed “Happy birthday my Olivia” in a caption below the photo he shared on his Instagram story.

The two stars first met on the set of Grease in 1978 and maintained a strong friendship for 44 years until her death.

In a previous interview with People, Olivia spoke to the publication about the hit movie and the bond she and John created after its success.

‘At the premiere, the energy gave you the feeling that something was going on. It was a huge response. I am grateful to be a part of that and have the opportunity to work with him. We’ve remained friends ever since.’

Shortly after Olivia’s sudden death, John had posted a tribute on his Instagram main page as he mourned her passing.

He had written, “My dear Olivia, you have made our whole life so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much.’

‘We’ll see you on the road and we’ll all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever,” he typed, adding, “Your Danny, your John!”

In the post, he shared a throwback photo of the actress. Social media users commented on their own kind words while remembering the talented star.

John had told People that, ‘Olivia is quite a spectacular human being. She is worthy of a good friendship.’

Aside from co-starring in Grease, the two reunited five years later to work on the 1983 film called Two Of A Kind.

The actress and singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, which she successfully battled. In 2013, she was diagnosed again, from which she recovered.

By 2017, however, the cancer had returned and had spread to her bones, resulting in a stage four diagnosis.

During an interview with Entertainment tonight in 2019, John briefly discussed Olivia amid her ongoing battle with cancer.

“She looks incredible,” he said. She doesn’t look any different from years ago, and I’m very proud of her.’

John’s wife, Kelly Preston, had also died in 2020 from a battle with breast cancer.

John Easterling, Olivia’s husband, wrote a tribute on Instagram while also confirming the news of her tragic passing last month in August.

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumph and hope for over 30 years as she shared her journey with breast cancer,” he had typed.

Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience in plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, which is dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in memory of the @onjfoundation.”

According to Us WeeklyOlivia’s family and loved ones held a private memorial service a month after her death earlier this month in September.

“There was a small and very private family gathering in California last week to celebrate Olivia,” a representative told the publication. “The family prefers to keep details of the event private at this time.”
