John Terry has wished Frank Lampard well after his former team-mate returned to Chelsea as caretaker manager.
The 44-year-old has been placed in the position until the end of the season following the sacking of Graham Potter last weekend, just two years after he was sacked at the end of his first stint as Blues boss.
Lampard led his first training session on Thursday with players who seemed generally happy with the appointment, especially those who had previously flourished under him, such as Mason Mount.
Terry wrote ‘good luck, mate’ in response to Chelsea’s tweet announcing the appointment, leading to fans urging the former England captain to join Lampard’s staff at Stamford Bridge.
“Join him, Captain,” one wrote, while others urged Chelsea to “get the band back together” as they “need Terry on the sidelines too.”

The pair enjoyed great success together on the pitch, winning three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and a Champions League in their 14 seasons with the Blues.
Terry also recently revealed that he would be willing to return to the club where he played for 29 years.
Speak against snooker legend Stephen Hendry before Lampard’s appointment, Terry said: ‘I’m done from a management point of view.
“The only job I would come out of retirement for would be the job at Chelsea, to be involved in the first team in some capacity.”
He also admitted to feeling “deflated” after going for management positions and being turned down for it.
For Lampard, the decision to return to the club where he has enjoyed many of his successes in football seemed equally simple.
Speaking to the media shortly after Chelsea officially confirmed his return, Lampard said: “[It was] a surprise in terms of you never know what decision the club is going to make.

“But it was an easy decision for me, this is my club. I am also a very practical person.
“Since I left Chelsea I’ve been on a different path, but I’ll come back when I’m called upon and I’ll come back with the belief that I can help until the end of the season.
“I am very happy to have the opportunity and I am grateful. I have a good understanding of the squad, the training ground, the stadium and the fans and I will do my best.’
The Blues face Wolves on Saturday before Lampard gets a real test next Wednesday when they take on Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
