Stamos writes, “I started writing it, and that’s when it really came out. And then I thought, “No, tonight’s not about me. It’s about the kids. I’ll pack it in again until the right moment.” By the way, I’m a fake jerk. It’s like, “Come on.”

“It was a page or something, but I felt I had to talk about it. It was strange. It was something that I think I was probably 10 or 11 (when it happened). I shouldn’t have had to deal with those feelings.’

The actor is now father to son Billy, five, who he shares with wife Caitlin, 37, and said: “But I’ll tell you, if I found out someone was doing this to my son, it’s a whole different story.” ‘

Elsewhere in the memoir, Stamos addressed his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse, detailing how a 2015 DUI arrest sparked his decision to get sober.

He writes: “I had to sober up. I just drank too much. I just went down. I didn’t go high. I just surrounded myself with people I shouldn’t have been around.

John spiraled into alcohol and substance abuse when he was faced with the death of his father and his divorce in 2004. He then found it particularly difficult to stop drinking after his mother passed away in September 2014.

In June 2015, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Beverly Hills. The actor later checked into a 30-day rehab program in July to get his life back on track and was sentenced to three years probation for DUI.

“I had that DUI and I was like, ‘I can’t do this.’ I have to correct myself.” “Back then I was confusing the universe because I’m not a bad person, but I did horrible things.”

The star entered rehab, which he says was ‘a bit dark’ before he ‘made a lot of good friends’.

He writes: “I had a lot waiting for me, and I feel bad because many people don’t, because they burned their lives.” Luckily, I had my sisters, but I also had Fuller House. I got home and I think a week later we started Fuller House.

He credits his wife and son with helping him ‘stay on the road’ to sobriety – admitting his famous photo in handcuffs on the side of the road after his arrest made him want to ‘throw up’.

Of his struggles with addiction, John said in 2016, “It just kind of worsened my life, and who I was, and my morals and my values.

‘I lost myself, I lost my sense of discipline… I was just sinking more and more into that dark place,’ he said. “I had a terrible DUI, which makes me so ashamed. I could have hurt someone, that was really stupid and ignorant of me. And I hated myself for it.’

But John admitted that alcohol was not the most difficult substance for him to kick. Instead, it was Ambien.

‘I was on some meds, anti-depressants and that freaking Ambien, I’m so glad I got off that. Completely off. I’m not taking anything,” he said at the time.

Stamos rose to global fame on Full House, created by Jeff Franklin, which originally premiered in 1987 and ran for eight seasons, ending in 1995.

The program centered on a widower who asked his brother-in-law and best friend to help raise his children.

The show also starred performers such as Bob Saget, Lori Laughlin and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The series was followed by a sequel called Fuller House, which ran from 2016 to 2020.
