John Fetterman was driving too fast when he rear-ended a car on the highway and was ‘at fault’ for a crash that sent him and his wife Gisele to the hospital, police say

Pennsylvania Democrat Senator John Fetterman was speeding when he hit a car on Sunday, and police say he is guilty.

According to a newly released police report obtained by DailyMail.com, the Democrat is “at fault” for hitting a car while “driving at a high rate of speed, well above the posted speed limit.”

Maryland State Police told DailyMail.com that the senator was driving a Chevrolet Traverse on Sunday when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala in northern Maryland, near the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border.

After the crash, both Fettermans were transported to the War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Senator Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder.

The Democrat has had a history of health problems, most notably suffering a stroke while running for Senate in 2022.

Since his stroke, Fetterman has suffered from audio problems that have resulted in him needing a phone- or tablet-based transcriber to hear colleagues and reporters clearly while working on Capitol Hill.

This has resulted in the installation of a live captioning system at the Democrats’ desk in Washington, DC.

It is known that he sometimes responded in half sentences to questions from journalists.

The crash happened on the westbound route of Interstate 70 near Interstate 68, authorities said.

“According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet Traverse and a Chevrolet Impala were both traveling westbound on I-70 when, for unknown reasons, the Traverse struck the rear of the Impala,” a Maryland State Police spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

The collision happened just before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

“A passenger in the Traverse and the driver of the Impala were transported by ambulance to West Virginia War Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries,” the spokesperson announced.

“No citations have been issued,” authorities said, before adding, “The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.”

A spokesperson for Fetterman’s office confirmed the incident to DailyMail.com on Monday.

“On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver.”
