John Farnham looks in great health as he celebrates 75th birthday with family after gruelling cancer surgery

John Farnham appeared to be in perfect health as he celebrated his 75th birthday on Monday.

The Australian rock legend, who is now cancer-free, appeared in an Instagram Stories post alongside his son Robert Farnham.

The father and son sat outside and enjoyed a quiet celebration with Rob, his wife Melissa and John’s wife Jill, to mark the milestone.

“Birthday boy,” Robert wrote with the photo, in which John looks relaxed and happy and also looks very good.

John was last seen in mid-June when he attended the wedding of his eldest son, Robert, and new wife Melissa.

In the intimate photos, he appeared to be in good health and largely unchanged following his grueling surgery in August 2022.

A smiling John posed next to groom Rob in images shared to Instagram on Sunday from the lavish nuptials.

John looked dapper in a black suit paired with a bronze tie that matched his pocket square, while his son opted for a white tuxedo with black accents.

Before that, John was seen celebrating Christmas with his family, but his entire face was not clearly visible in the image.

While recovering from surgery for his oral cancer, he hugged his wife Jill as he sat down for a family meal in a photo shared to Instagram.

He was surrounded by his sons Rob and James, 36, as well as family members wearing Christmas-themed bibs and Santa hats.

In August 2023, Farnham revealed he is cancer-free, 12 months after undergoing oral surgery in 2022.

Farnham’s family previously provided updates on behalf of the Australian music legend, following the August 2022 proceedings.

Speaking on Sunrise, John’s son Robert said his father was “doing fantastically” after a 12-hour operation for throat cancer.

The That’s Freedom hitmaker was also hospitalised after developing a chest infection following surgery to remove a cancerous growth in his mouth.

It is ‘unlikely’ that Farnham will ever perform again after undergoing marathon surgery to remove the tumour from his mouth.

The operation, which was carried out by 26 medical staff, also saw the removal of a large part of his jaw.

Farnham only discovered he had cancer in his mouth after his wife Jill insisted he take him to the doctor for a check-up because he had a persistent ulcer in his mouth.

In April, John announced that he is releasing his own candid memoir, titled The Voice Inside, just over a year after his surgery for oral cancer.

It’s reminiscent of the highs and lows of his fame: when his stellar career stalled, record companies turned their backs and he faced financial ruin.

Farnham will also elaborate on his shock oral cancer diagnosis in 2022, just months after the death of his friend and manager Glenn Wheatley.

The memoir, published by Hachette Australia, is expected to be released in November 2024.

“After being asked many times, it finally felt like the right time to sit down and tell my story,” Farnham said in a statement.

‘It’s a very strange feeling to look back on my life, the good and the bad, and now that I’ve started it’s all coming back.

‘I hope the book will be engaging and entertaining, because that’s what a large part of my life is about.’

Stockwell added: “Working with John on his memoir was like sitting down with an old friend, who also happens to be an absolute legend, to share stories that are both deeply personal and hugely entertaining.

“His resilience and sense of humor shine through in every memory, making this project a true reflection of the man behind the music. It’s been a joy to help bring his stories to life, and I can’t wait for readers to get an unfettered look at the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.”
