John Cena has paid tribute to Luke Littler on Instagram, posting a photo of the teenage darts sensation on the social media platform following his sensational performance in reaching the final of the PDC World Darts Championship.
It came after it emerged the 16-year-old was a huge wrestling fan as a child, with Littler claiming his walkout music ‘Greenlight’ by Pitbull was inspired by a trip to watch Wrestlemania 33 in 2017 with his dad – an event where the musician performed live.
The teenager has won the praise of fans around the world after storming his way to the final of the competition on his debut, beating some of the most famous names in the darts world including Brendan Dolan, Rob Cross and his hero and former champion Raymond van Barneveld . .
Before the final, Littler had explained to BBC Radio 1 why he chose ‘Greenlight’ with his walkout music, claiming: ‘It was from WrestleMania 33, in 2017. I went there (to Orlando, Florida) with my dad; it was incredible.’

WWE reached out to Littler after he admitted that his walkout music ‘Greenlight’ by Pitbull was inspired by a trip to Wrestlemania 33, with the 16-year-old responding with two videos
After hearing the story, WWE contacted Littler online and extended a special invitation to the darts player to attend WWE Live in London on April 19.

He also posted two videos of himself as a child. One showed him bumping his head while singing along to ‘Greenlight’ at Wrestlemania 33, while the second showed him imitating John Cena’s walk-out song.
The video showed him walking into a room wearing sunglasses as Cena’s walkout music “The Time is Now” also played. He was also filmed swinging around a WWE belt.
Cena then responded to the clip, posting a photo of Littler at the World Darts Championship on his Instagram without a caption.

He made a sensational debut at the PDC World Darts Championship, reaching the final, but suffered defeat to Luke Humphries
The Warrington-based darts player has subsequently been named as one of eight players taking part in this year’s Premier League darts campaign
Littler then added the photo to his Instagram Story and confirmed the message.
The darts sensation has now been named in the eight-man line-up for this year’s Premier League Darts campaign after stealing the show at Alexandra Palace.
The event kicks off on Thursday, February 1 at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena, with a prize pool of £1 million, with the winner set to claim £275,000.
The winner of each of the 16 preceding nights can also take home a prize of £10,000.
Littler will be joined by a number of big stars from the darts world, including Luke Humphries, who defeated him 7-4 in the final at Alexandra Palace. Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith will also take part, alongside Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright.
