Joey Barton calls it ‘nonsense’ and ‘tokenism’ that ex-Liverpool Women’s goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis is included as expert by Amazon for the Reds’ win over Burnley… as he carries on crusade against female pundits

  • Joey Barton has continued his social media offensive against female pundits
  • He questioned Rachel Brown-Finnis' credentials in a barbed post on X
  • Nuno Espirito Santo wasn't the manager Spurs thought they would get… he needs to revive his Wolves success to win over Forest fans – It all starts

Joey Barton continued his sexist campaign against female pundits by slamming Rachel Brown-Finnis' involvement in the broadcast of Liverpool's 2-0 win over Burnley.

He branded it “nonsense” and “tokenism” that Brown-Finnis, a former Liverpool and England goalkeeper, was a pundit for the match on Amazon Prime Video.

It comes after a series of misogynistic messages from Barton targeting respected broadcasters and former players, with Barton initially suggesting that 'women should not be allowed to speak with any form of authority in the men's game.'

Barton, who was sacked by Bristol Rovers in October, has fired shots at the likes of Alex Scott, Laura Woods and Bianca Westwood, while calling it “dangerous” for women to work at men's clubs because they “had full-on businesses and cost people marriages '.

On Tuesday evening he turned his attention to Brown-Finnis, writing on X: 'Is this women expert (Finnis-Brown) [sic] an international goalkeeper? She is at least a foot shorter than the Turtle Head and McManaman.

Joey Barton has once again targeted a female expert, this time against Rachel Brown-Finnis

'I would chip her on her leash.

'Why is she talking about the men's game???

“Please stop this nonsense.”

As a parting blow, he wrote: '#tokenism'.

It is not the first time he has aimed at a goalkeeper.

He boasted he would score '100 out of 100 penalties' against Mary Earps after she won the Sports Personality of the Year award earlier this month.

Despite initially congratulating Earps – who won the Golden Glove en route to the Women's World Cup final with the Lionesses in the summer – he then claimed she 'didn't win a sausage' and called her a 'big bag of hoes' in a bitter broad side.

He insisted horse racing legend Frankie Dettori or snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan should have won the prize.

The former England international's vitriolic messages have led to widespread condemnation.

He previously launched a tirade after Mary Earps won the sports personality of the year award, calling her a 'big bag of spuds'

Barton has also demanded that Alex Scott is 'not allowed to comment on the men's game'

He demanded Lioness hero Alex Scott 'not comment on the men's game' in one post.

His tirade included saying female football pundits commenting on the men's game was the same as him 'talking about knitting or netball' – while labeling those who disagreed with him as 'fart packs' and 'eunuch'.

At the end of BBC Sport's live coverage of Arsenal's 4-1 win over Chelsea in the Women's Super League, Scott hit back with an inspiring message.

“To all the women in football, in front of the camera, behind it, to the players on the field, to everyone attending games, continue to be the role model that you continue to be,” Scott said.

“For all those young girls who are told, 'No, you can't do that,' football is a better place when we're all in it.”

Barton appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored and subsequently attempted to defend his comments, again rounding on Scott and claiming she was not qualified enough to commentate on the men's game as she had never played in it.

When he was grilled about his views. Barton said 'she hasn't played in it', adding: 'One is 200 years old and one is about 40 years old… it's the same rules, but football is about a lot more than just rules… The games have two different speeds. '

Barton said it was the same when he commented on Formula 1 just because he can drive a car.

He has claimed that his problem is about the “woke agenda” and has “nothing to do with sexism at all.”
