“The medic came down and said ‘Oh my God’ and that’s when I knew I was in trouble. He sent me to hospital but it was Skegness at 11pm on a Saturday night. So I went to Bridlington the next day and got stitches.’

He went on to joke, “I’ve gotten more publicity out of this than anything I’ve done in the last fifty years.

“I would impale myself on eight moose points in the stomach. Seriously, I died.’

Joe went on to explain how if he had been stabbed in the stomach it could have been fatal, but thanks to his “agility” he managed to avoid life-threatening damage.

However, he ended up needing seven stitches in his leg after the moose’s teeth severed the back of his leg.

The comedian continued: ‘I’m 62, but I’m pretty nimble for a guy my age. So I had one leg on the floor, the other hanging there on the right side, and I managed to push myself over. My torso went over the moose’s head.

“And when I landed on the moose’s head, on its teeth, I only hit the back of the leg. It really hurt, but I thought “that’s okay”.

“Anyway, I went to my tour manager who does the sound. I went, “Lee, I think I hurt my leg, would you like to take a look at it?” He went, “Yeah, what did you do?”

“I said, ‘I just fell over and landed on my moose head’.” He laughed. I pulled down my pants to show him and he almost turned white, he almost passed out. He said, “Oh my God, you need a medic.”

Joe admitted that he must have been in shock before the medic insisted he go straight to the emergency room because the cut was so severe.

This is in Skegness at 11pm. I said “There’s no way I’m going to Skegness at 11am, I’ll be there for 48 hours, it’s going to be full of every drunk person in the world”. He said, “Well, you have to go.”
