Joe Manganiello shows off his new ‘Angel’ arm tattoo amid his shock divorce from Sofia Vergara

Joe Manganiello debuted a new forearm tattoo earlier this week during his ongoing divorce from his soon-to-be ex-wife, the actress Sofia Vergara.

The actor’s new ink, 46, was spotted in an Aug. 22 Instagram post by Ruben Malayan, the calligrapher, not the tattoo artist, who designed and penned the tattoo’s font, which pays homage to Manganiello’s Armenian heritage .

‘My latest work, the largest in scope so far. liquer (Engel) for @joemanganiello, who will surely wear it with pride!’ Maleyan wrote in the lengthy caption.

In the photo, Manganiello had his forearm front and center, while his and Vergara’s dog Bubbles, whom Vergara allowed her soon-to-be ex-husband to hold, sat on his lap.

The former True Blood star posed to display the lyrics, which were written in Armenian using a calligraphy-style font that Malay designed.

According to Malay, the word means ‘Իրրրրրւ֥ւּּּּրּրրրրրրրրրրրրրրּpref nf.’ ‘angel’ when translated from Armenian to English.

Pictured from the waist down, the 46-year-old wore a black short-sleeved T-shirt, flexing his muscular arms as he showed off his new tattoo.

Manganiello is Armenian through his mother Susan’s side of the family.

The actors maternal great-grandmotherTerviz “Rose” Darakjian, is a survivor of the Armenian Genocide.

Over the years, Manganiello has publicly expressed how proud he is of his Armenian heritage.

On a February 7, 2023 episode of Find Your Roots, he elaborated on the heartbreaking survival story of how his great-grandmother fled Armenia in 1915 and witnessed the murder of her husband (Joe’s great-grandfather) and seven children.

“The Turks entered her home in 1915 under the guise of World War I and attempted to carry out the genocide they had begun. They shot her husband, shot her. She lay on the floor and pretended to be dead while seven more gunshots went off, they were… her seven children,” Manganiello said.

He also shared that she survived by pretending to be dead and when the Turks left the house, she fled along with the eighth child, who was still a baby, and the Turks were left to starve to death in a crib.

Unfortunately, the eighth child drowned when Manganiello’s great-grandmother swam across the Euphrates River.

Manganiello’s new ink comes nearly a month after he and Vergara, 51, stopped it after seven years of marriage.

We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people who love and care for each other very much, we politely ask that our privacy be respected at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the soon-to-separate couple said in a joint statement.

The couple started dating in 2014 and got engaged on Christmas Eve of that same year.

They were married on November 21, 2015 in a ceremony held in Palm Beach, Florida. The couple had no children together.

The marriage was Vergara’s second as she was previously married to her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez, from 1991 to 1993.

The America’s Got Talent judge and Gonzalez share one son, Manolo, who will celebrate his 32nd birthday next month.

Meanwhile, Manganiello was never married and had no children from his previous relationships prior to his marriage to Vergara.
