Joe Gomez has revealed who he thinks is ‘the life of the party’ in England’s Euro 2024 dressing room.
The Liverpool defender, who has 13 caps to his name, is heading to his first major tournament with his country and will be hoping to make his mark as the Three Lions go for glory.
He is one of eight defenders named for the tournament by manager Gareth Southgate and will be keen to play his role when they open their tournament against Serbia on Sunday.
Speaking in the second episode of England’s ‘Diary Room’ series, Gomez talked about a variety of topics, from a table tennis match to the start of the tournament this weekend.
The 27-year-old gave his verdict on a fellow defender, praising his attitude and the way he likes to entertain the group.
Joe Gomez has opened up about who is ‘the life of the party’ in the England dressing room at Euros
The Liverpool defender will take part in his first international tournament at the age of 27
‘Table tennis, I would say on that occasion it was me, Ebz (Eberechi Eze), Ezri [Konsa] and B (Bukayo Saka). It was probably between B and Ebz on that occasion. Me and Ezri were just trying to give him some heat, but B and Ebz were probably the best two players.
“Ez is just a joker, he’s a top guy. He’s the life of the party, I’d say, and he always makes everyone laugh. He always has such a good vibe, so if he’s not great he can still speak, but what a guy.”
Gomez went on to discuss how he rose to fame with England, and how he overcame injuries to reach the Euros.
He supported his side in speaking out against Serbia, but acknowledged that the task ahead will not be easy.
“Most are probably aware of the injuries and difficulties I have had in the past,” he added. ‘I have longed to go to a big tournament, every boy dreams of doing that on a big occasion like this,
Gomez also previewed England’s first match of the tournament, against Serbia on Sunday evening
“It makes it sweeter because I’ve missed it in the past. It is special for me to be here among the boys.
‘We achieved a disappointing result at Wembley. We have to be there and at one hundred percent intensity. We know it’s going to be a tough match. Serbia is clearly a physical team, but we want to make a flying start.’
