Joe Cole was quick to shower Trent Alexander-Arnold with praise after the Liverpool star scored a superb goal in the England v Malta encounter.

The 24-year-old was deployed in midfield for the Euro 2024 qualifier, as Gareth Southgate took the opportunity to experiment with his Three Lions side.

And wearing the number ten shirt, it didn’t take long for the England star to impress at the Ta’Qali National Stadium.

The Liverpool star fired a stunning pass behind the Malta defense that helped orchestrate the opener in the game, before scoring a goal shortly afterwards.

Alexander-Arnold clung to a loose ball that had rebounded in his path and made no mistake finishing his attempt – drawing praise from fans and pundits alike.

At half-time, former Chelsea star Joe Cole was quick to praise the Liverpool star, claiming he was ‘at the center of everything’ for Gareth Southgate’s side.

“He’s been excellent,” Cole said. “He’s picked up everything, he’s looking into his passing, he’s been at the center of everything England has done.

“It has taken away the question of whether he can play in that position. You have to have a system that allows you to play Trent in such positions where he can influence the game. He is a joy to play with for any striker.’

Fans quickly took to social media to praise the goal and performance of England’s newest number ten.

“The role of this new Trent could be a cheat code,” one supporter wrote on Twitter. While another pointed out that the goal was scored with his less developed foot, he said: ‘Even with his weak foot, Trent is insane’.

Alexander-Arnold was so good in England’s first half that another user said Liverpool shouldn’t bother signing another midfielder.

Claimen: ‘I hope Klopp is watching. One less midfielder to buy this season. Trent has this.’

Another fan went all in by simply declaring ‘Trent Alexander Arnold is the best footballer in the world’.

A statement, supported by a user, also sent a message to those who have doubted the player in the past, saying, “Sick of this Trent discourse, you know… broke multiple records, won big trophies and it’s so how long did it take for people to realize how good he is? No, you’re just flip flops and haters.’

Fans took to social media to praise Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal and achievements

Euro 2022 winner Jill Scott watched in the Channel 4 studio and also raved about Alexander-Arnold’s goal and display in Malta.

I think he really deserved the goal for his play in the first half. Scott said at halftime.

“What a great turn from Maddison, and then when it falls to him, it’s such a great finish. You have to question the keeper’s position, but you can’t argue with Trent’s finishing. The curl, the precision, he had such a good first half.’

The goal was also something of a milestone, as Opta revealed that Alexander-Arnold became the first Liverpool player to score from outside the box for England in a competitive international since Steven Gerrard against Moldova in September 2013 in a World Cup qualifier.
