The Bengals are off to a disappointing 0-3 start, but that has nothing to do with Joe Burrow, according to an ex-Cincinnati star.
Burrow has 746 passing yards and five touchdowns (with no interceptions) through three weeks, but his team’s defense has allowed an average of 26.7 points per game.
And in the eyes of former Bengals offensive lineman Willie Anderson, any criticism of Burrow for the team’s struggles thus far is “ridiculous.”
“Thanks to him they participate in these competitions,” he says told TMZ. “It’s just completely ridiculous.”
‘To watch the match [Monday] night and to say that any blame should be placed on Joe Burrow [Monday] In the evening if you score thirty points, that is absolutely ridiculous.’
Joe Burrow and the Bengals suffered their third loss on Monday when they lost to Washington
But former Cincinnati offensive lineman Willie Anderson doesn’t believe Burrow is to blame
Burrow did nothing to tarnish his reputation against the Commanders as he threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns.
However, the Bengals gave up 38 points at home against Washington as rookie Jayden Daniels put the league on notice with a stellar performance.
Starting slowly is nothing new for the Bengals, as they have started 0-2 each of the past two seasons and recovered from that hole to clinch the AFC Conference Championship in the 2022 season.
Nevertheless, they are now three games behind the AFC North-leading Steelers in the division.
However, Cincinnati will have a chance to get back on track in the coming weeks as the schedule relaxes.
Over the next four games they play the Panthers (this weekend), Giants and Browns, who are collectively 3-6.
The Ravens will face a tougher test immediately after Carolina.
“As long as he’s healthy and upright, he’ll give you a chance to get this thing back on track,” Anderson said.
The Bengals visit Carolina on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET in search of their first win of the season.
