Biden, 81, greets Italian Giorgia Meloni with a hug, kisses and an awkward hello
President Joe Biden kicked off the G7 summit in Italy with a warm greeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whom he kissed on the head and gave a strange greeting.
Biden was the last of the world leaders to arrive, after landing in the Italian region of Apulia on Wednesday evening.
The two greeted each other for a long time, shook hands and took each other’s arms.
At one point, Biden even raised his hand to give a mid-salute to his counterpart, who is hosting this year’s confab as the rotating head of the meeting.
The Italian Prime Minister had to wait for Biden to arrive after greeting other leaders. She seemed to tailor her greetings to the personalities and cultural expectations of her guests.
Trump will be followed by a billboard with images from January 6 during the Capitol Hill trip
Democrats will try to troll Donald Trump during his return to Capitol Hill on Thursday with a billboard showing images from January 6.
The mobile screen on the back of a truck will follow the former president as he meets with Republicans as he tries to drum up more support for the general election.
NBC News reported that the montage will be 11 minutes long, and will include Trump’s speech and then a video of rioters storming the Capitol.
Naomi Biden recovers from her devastating stand on the stand at father Hunter’s gun trial by relaxing poolside at a $1,000-a-night resort
Naomi Biden relaxes with husband Peter Neal in Italy after her devastating testimony in father Hunter’s gun trial last week.
The couple accompanied President Joe Biden on his trip for the G7. They hitched a ride on Air Force One along with Naomi’s sisters Finnegan and Maisy.
The Bidens’ eldest granddaughter posted a photo of Neal and an unidentified male friend at the luxury resort where the president is staying on Thursday. She is not visible in the photo.
I call it ‘mis amores!!!’ (Italian for ‘my loves’), the photo shows Neal and the friend sitting on lounge chairs, with a plate of fruit nearby. It looks like the photo was taken near a swimming pool. Olive trees stand in the background against a lush, blue sky.
Hillary Clinton stuns Democrats by endorsing George Latimer for Jamaal Bowman’s congressional seat
Hillary Clinton has taken a rare step by endorsing the primary opponent of an incumbent Democrat in the New York House of Representatives, sparking significant backlash from some in her party.
The former New York senator endorsed Westchester County Executive George Latimer for the congressional seat currently held by Rep. Jamaal Bowman.
“With Trump on the ballot, we need strong, principled Democrats in Congress more than ever,” Clinton wrote on X on Wednesday.
The former first lady’s support for Latimer upset some progressives, who quickly condemned the move, with some suggesting it was more of a reason to vote for Bowman.
“Imagine taking Hillary Clinton’s advice in a year that Trump is in the election,” wrote Bhaskar Sunkara, a democratic socialist journalist, who spoke out about Clinton’s historic 2016 loss.
Giorgia Meloni and her six lame ducks: Italian prime minister takes center stage as Biden, 81, and G7 world leaders smile through the pain of devastating election at home
When President Joe Biden joined his fellow G7 leaders for a family photo on Thursday, almost all of them escaped political danger at home for a brief getaway at the luxury resort on the Italian coast.
In fact, this year’s meeting in Italy is the weakest gathering of leaders the group has seen in decades. Everyone but Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is facing a tough election, a domestic crisis or political danger – in some cases all of the above.
The G7 meeting comes less than a week after far-right parties dominated the European Parliament elections, signaling that next year’s gathering could face a whole new crop of leaders backing Meloni.
Biden and Zelensky strike a 10-year deal aimed at locking in US military support for Ukraine… that could kneecap Trump
President Joe Biden is close to signing a deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at committing the US to 10 years of military aid – a move that could put pressure on rival Donald Trump if he takes over the White House.
The move is a key ‘outcome’ of Biden’s G7 meetings due to start in Italy’s Apulia region on Thursday. The president arrived last night and will meet Zelensky one on one before the two leaders will hold a joint press conference on Thursday evening local time.
“We want to show that the U.S. stands with the Ukrainian people, that we stand with them and that we will continue to help address their security needs, not just tomorrow, but in the future,” said the U.S. National Security Advisor White House, Jake Sullivan. reporters aboard Air Force One en route to the annual confab.
“This is a big problem,” he added Thursday. He called it a “real sign of our commitment, not just for this month, this year, but for many years into the future, to continue supporting Ukraine both in defending against Russian aggression and in deterring future aggression.”
