Joe Biden warns that the US will hold Iran ‘accountable’ for providing military support to Russia and Hamas
President Joe Biden used his address to the American people Thursday evening to warn Iran that it would be held responsible for supporting both Russia and Hamas.
During his speech, the 80-year-old linked the conflicts in Ukraine and Israel, arguing “we cannot let terrorists like Hamas and Putin win.”
He noted that Iran provided military support to both Russia and the terrorist group.
“Iran supports Russia in Ukraine and supports Hamas and other terrorist groups in the region,” Biden said. “We will continue to hold them accountable, I might add.”
It comes as the Senate on Thursday condemned “Iran’s support for global terror” in a resolution pledging support for Israel.
President Joe Biden used his address to the American people Thursday evening to warn Iran that it would be held responsible for supporting both Russia and Hamas.
President Biden implored Congress to approve a projected $100 billion in new funding — but this is already meeting resistance from Republicans in Congress, who are wary of giving new money to Ukraine.
But sitting at the Resolute Desk, Biden argued in his 15-minute speech that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the terrorist group Hamas, responsible for the bloody attack on Israel on October 7, “represent different threats” but share a common goal.
“They both want to completely destroy a neighboring democracy,” he said.
Ukraine and Russia also share a common enemy in Iran.
Biden added: “American leadership is what holds the world together.
“American alliances keep us – America – safe. American values make us a partner with whom other countries want to work.
“To jeopardize all that when we leave Ukraine, we turn our backs on Israel – it’s just not worth it.”
The president’s comments come after the Senate unanimously passed a resolution affirming support for Israel, the right to self-defense and condemnation of Hamas’ attacks on civilians.
It “condemns Iran’s support for global terrorism, including its support for terrorist groups such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”
