Jodie Whittaker sips on a beer in a vintage Adidas jacket as she gets into character with co-star Aimee Lou Wood to film the first scenes for Netflix’s new drama Toxic Town

Jodie Whittaker was spotted on set with co-star Aimee Lou Wood on Saturday to film the first scenes of Netflix’s new drama Toxic Town.

The Doctor Who actress, 41, looked unrecognizable in a red vintage Adidas jacket as she was pictured sipping a can of beer in the park.

Netflix’s upcoming four-part limited series from Broke & Bones, Toxic Town, tells the story of the real-life Corby poisonings, one of Britain’s biggest environmental scandals.

Jodie, who made her last appearance on the BBC’s iconic sci-fi series last October, looked edgy as she wore dark washed jeans and a pair of classic black and white Adidas sneakers with a gold chain.

Meanwhile, Sex Education star Aimee, 29, was dressed in jeans with booties and a brown suede jacket.

In one of the scenes, the twosome were seen clasping arms together and talking before sitting down on a couch.

The drama focuses on three mothers fighting for justice after a toxic waste spill in the Northamptonshire town of Corby.

In 1980, the city experienced one of the largest cases of child poisoning and children were exposed to a large amount of toxic waste, resulting in more birth defects than ever during this period.

In addition to Jodie and Aimee, fans will see Downton Abbey stars Brendan Coyle, Robert Carlyle and The Diplomat stars Rory Kinnear.

The release date is not yet known.

The author, Jack Thornesaid: “The Corby toxic waste case is one of those defining moments in history.

“It showed our ability to close our eyes and ears to the safety of our people. It also showed the remarkable way people will fight for what is right.

“Toxic Town tells the story of these funny, brave, incredible women and the way they wrecked for their kids.”

Since quitting Doctor Who, Jodie was spotted filming scenes for the Australian thriller One Night at Sydney’s Malabar Ocean Pool in February.

In 2021, Jodie confirmed she would be leaving Doctor Who, with the BBC revealing her departure will play out in a three-part special.

The British star, the show’s first female doctor, described her four-year stint as crew of the Tardis as “the best job I’ve ever had.”

Ncuti Gatwa was revealed as the 15th Doctor in the hit science fiction show in May 2022 after Jodie Whittaker confirmed her departure from the role.

He is the first black actor to star as The Doctor, after Whittaker made history as the first permanent female Time Lord in 2017.
