Jodie Haydon campaigning for the Labor Party candidate in the NSW state election at Sydney’s Mortdale station

Australia’s ‘not a politician’ first lady Jodie Haydon joins wife of NSW opposition leader Chris Minns to campaign for local Labor Party candidate – while Anthony Albanese stops over in Fiji

She has previously vowed not to get involved in politics, but Anthony Albanese’s girlfriend Jodie Haydon was photographed today campaigning hard for the Labor Party.

The ‘first lady’ of Australian politics was caught handing out leaflets for Labour’s Oatley candidate Ash Ambihaipahar at Mortdale Station in Sydney’s south ahead of the NSW state election on March 25.

Dressed in a stylish bright red blazer paired with black slacks and heels, Ms Haydon was seen smiling and chatting with Anna Minns, wife of NSW Opposition Leader Chris Minns in a Liberal electorate.

The pair embraced before handing out party flyers to passing members of the public and posing for a selfie with Ms Ambihaipahar.

The candidate later posted the photo on her Facebook page alongside the caption, “Yes, the girls! Great to have Jodie Haydon and Anna Minns at Mortdale station this morning.’

Ms Haydon, 45, vowed to avoid political commentary before becoming Albanian prime minister.

“Anthony is the one running for political office here, it’s not me,” she said in an interview with News Corp ahead of the 2022 election.

“My job will be to focus on my day job and allow Anthony to focus on his.”

But her political views have come to light a number of times since Mr Albanese took office in May last year.

Last week, Daily Mail Australia revealed exclusively that Ms Haydon has taken part in a campaign to reform the pension system in 2019.

She wrote an article calling on the federal government to make a slew of changes to the super-rules to protect women and low-income people.

The revelation of the dossier came after Mr Albanese was accused of breaking a campaign promise following the announcement that his Labor government would double taxes on money in pension accounts in excess of $3m.

Mrs. Haydon, born in Bankstown, Western Sydney to parents who were school teachers, is now reported to work as a women’s officer with the NSW Public Service Association.

Last year, Daily Mail Australia revealed that she would regularly share her political views on her LinkedIn account.

These include calls to change the date of Australia Day, support for pay increases for teachers and praise for outspoken feminist Grace Tame as inspiring.

She shared a cartoon of an Aboriginal rights protester with the caption, “Sovereignty has never been relinquished. Always has been, always will be Aboriginal land. #ulurustatementfromtheheart #treaty #changethedate’.

Ms Haydon’s view on Australia Day’s date contrasts sharply with that of the Prime Minister, who insisted during last year’s election campaign that the date should not be moved.

“One of the things we need to do is find ways to unite Australia, rather than engage in culture wars. It’s really counterproductive,” he said.

Ms Haydon, who has been a Labor member all her life, has removed her LinkedIn following the Daily Mail Australia report.

Albanian is on a state visit to Fiji following the signing of the historic AUKUS submarine agreement with his US and UK counterparts, President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Ms Haydon campaigned in the state seat of Oatley, which Multiculturalism Minister Mark Coure holds by a margin of 6.8 per cent, having won the Labor seat for the first time in 2011.

Ms Haydon advocated a change to Australia Day’s date in this LinkedIn post. Mr Albanese does not share this view
