Jodie Foster says her True Detective character is a ‘Karen’ as she debuted as Detective Liz Danvers

Jodie Foster has named her newest on-screen character ‘Alaska Karen’ as she made her debut as Detective Liz Danvers in season four of True Detective on Sunday.

The 61-year-old actress is joined by Kali Reis (as Evangeline Navarro) to form True Detective’s first all-female lead duo as they solve a mystery of disappearing investigators in the span of 24 hours.

HBO’s description says the pair will have to “confront the darkness itself and delve into the ghostly truths buried beneath the eternal ice.”

According to People, she said at the Los Angeles premiere last week: “Liz Danvers is terrible. She is (an) “Alaska Karen”. There are no two ways about it.

‘She’s a terrible, terrible character. But you understand why.’

The new six-part season of the Emmy-winning show follows Detective Danvers as she tries to figure out what happened to eight missing men who worked at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska.

The Taxi Driver star teased her favorite part of the new season, which she also executive produced, adding that her favorite part of the crime drama is the finale.

Following its premiere, True Detective: Night Country received mixed reviews, but many still praised the opening.

And Jodie thinks they’ll get better as they go, with a ‘great trajectory’.

Detective Danvers isn’t her first major role as a member of the force, having played FBI student Clarice Starling in her Oscar-winning performance in The Silence Of The Lambs.

Foster admitted that the two don’t look much alike.

While in Danvers we see someone who has stayed the course in her profession, Jodie suggested, “I think Clarice probably wouldn’t have stayed an FBI officer.

“I just feel like one day she would have quit and maybe worked in a soup kitchen or something.”

Episode two of True Detective’s fourth season airs on January 21, with the remaining four released every Sunday.
