Jodie Foster says her sons Charles and Kit are ‘insecure’ about their careers – after she won Lead Actress at Emmys

Just moments after winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actress at the 2024 Emmys, Jodie Foster revealed that her two children are unsure about their career paths.

The 61-year-old Oscar-winning star spoke candidly about her sons Charles, 26, and Kit, 23, backstage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.

“They’re at the age where they’re starting their careers and they’re quite uncertain about what’s going to happen,” Jodie said People.

“But every time they have something good happen to them, like I got an ‘A’ or I got this job or I auditioned, my heart fills up because I have the memory of a wonderful career that was built on doing meaningful work. And I know that’s the recipe for happiness,” she added.

“I’m just really happy for them, for the future.”

The original Freaky Friday star won the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Short-form Series or Anthology Series for her work in True Detective: Night Country.

In January, Jodie revealed why she never told her children she was a Hollywood star when they were growing up.

“I guess I just didn’t want them to know me that way,” she said on The view“I wanted them to know me as their mother and as the person who went away for work and stuff.”

“I just didn’t want them to be confused about what I did for a living,” she added.

The Silence of the Lambs alum – WHO stars with Annette Bening in Nyad – and then hilariously recalls what her older brother thought she was doing when she took him to a film set every day.

‘And I thought, “Yeah, and this is this set and this set and this set. And for the longest time he thought I was a construction worker. He thought I worked in construction.”

Now that Charles and her youngest son, Christopher ‘Kit’, are both grown up, Jodie was asked if she watched any of her films with them.

“They’re not interested in watching my movies with me. I think they’re going to watch True Detective, because they really love that,” she said of her HBO series.

“There are a few movies I would never show them because I would be afraid of being bullied. Like Nell for example. They’ve never seen those movies because they often tease me about it, even though they’ve never seen the movie.”

Jodie shares two sons with her ex-partner, Cydney Bernard. Foster is their biological mother, the identity of the biological father has not been made public.

After their divorce in 2008, the actress married Alexandra Hedison in 2014.

Jodie appeared on The View after spending time with Kit in New York in November.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Kit currently works as a research assistant at Princeton University.

About his scientific ambitions, the versatile student wrote: ‘I especially like the physical and organic sub-areas, but I can’t decide which one I like best.
