Jodie Comer sparks split fears with American boyfriend James Burke after award ceremony ‘snub’

Jodie Comer has sparked rumors of a split with her American boyfriend James Burke after more than three years together.

The Killing Eve star, 30, met her partner, 29, – who works in technology and is “not in the public eye at all” – at a party in the summer of 2019 while shooting Free Guy alongside Ryan Reynolds in Boston .

And despite getting together shortly before the pandemic, the actress made no secret of her feelings at the time, revealing that her romance was the first time she’s ever been in love.

But now it seems the pair have gone their separate ways.

Jodie — who recently won the lead actress gong at the Tony Awards for her one-woman play Prima Facie — made no mention of her lacrosse-playing boyfriend.

The pair have also not been photographed together in three years.

A source told The sunJodie and James were really in love for a while, but they’re in different parts of the world. She is at a very exciting time in her career and is pushing ahead with all the opportunities that come her way.

“All her hard work over the years is paying off. She looks forward to her future.’

Last week, Jodie attended the Tony Awards at United Palace in New York City with her brother Charlie and thanked “family and friends” in her acceptance speech — without mentioning James.

She also won an Olivier award in April and attended the ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall with family. But again, there was no sign of James.

Before that, she once again went without her beau to the WhatsOnStage Awards in February and last year’s Bafta TV awards in London.

The MailOnline has reached out to Jodie’s spokesperson for comment.

Their relationship wasn’t without rocky waters — with “awkward” long-distance and backlash after James’ alleged political affiliations revealed he was a registered Republican voter.

Some fans at the time criticized Jodie for dating James after concluding “without any evidence” that he must be a Trump supporter, calling for her to “cancel.”

Appearing on the cover of InStyle’s January 2019 issue, the Killing Eve star firmly criticized “the absurdity” of the allegations and insisted she declined to comment on claims he supports POTUS for the sake of “her health.”

She said, “It was really shocking. It was the first time I had ever been dragged into something like this. And it wasn’t just me; it was my family…

“I had seen the absurdity of what I was accused of, and what my partner was accused of… I decided for my own health that I would not try to convince these people otherwise. I just wasn’t going to do it.’

Meanwhile, in 2020, in an interview with the Sunday Times style magazine, the Liverpudlian admitted that the relationship had turned out like no other she’s had before.

She said, “You know, I would never want to talk badly about people from my past, but yeah, this relationship feels very different. This feels like nothing else.

“When you really feel it, you think, “Ahhh, so that’s what it feels like!” And it was special.

“I was out, it was the middle of summer, doing this incredible job that was so much fun, it was my first time working in the United States. So it was a lot of firsts.’

While the pair were in the throes of a blossoming romance, Jodie further admitted that things had been ‘tricky’ in recent months, with the pandemic hampering travel between her home in the UK and the home of the wealthy Penn State grad in New England limited.

She added, “It was tricky… there’s a lot of FaceTiming. But it works! It is well. It’s really good. It’s like anything in life, if you want it enough, you make it work.”

James was a star lacrosse player while in school and continued to play the sport as a senior level midfielder while attending Pennsylvania State University in communications arts and sciences, according to his player profile.

He allegedly met Jodie in Boston and stayed with her in Liverpool in the summer of 2019 to get to know the star and her close-knit family.

Jodie explained to Porter that she likes to keep her love life private, saying, “It’s important to my family and having a boyfriend who isn’t in the public eye; it can be very strange and surreal.

“I’m very careful about what I bring into my family’s life, it’s a matter of safety.”

James spent time with Jodie and her family in Liverpool during the lockdown, a time the busy actress enjoyed.

“There’s nothing better than being at home, with my mom, my dad, and my brother on the couch, and all of us watching TV,” she gushed.
