Jodie Comer plays a new mother struggling to give her newborn the life she deserves in the first moving trailer for The End We Start From.
The 30-year-old actress from Liverpool stars as Mother in the film adaptation of Megan Hunter’s novel, playing a Londoner forced to flee the capital when an ecological disaster causes apocalyptic flooding.
The trailer opens with Mom meeting love interest R at a bar before disaster strikes, with the pair debating whether to go on a date.
Mother jokes ‘it could be a disaster’ as the caravan abruptly changes to a flash-forward of her standing in the sea after the disaster with her baby in her arms.
A montage shows how Mother and O’s relationship develops, but just as it is revealed that the couple is expecting their first child together, a climate crisis begins, with homes and buildings beginning to become uninhabitable due to rising waters .

The trailer opens with a meeting between mother and love interest and a montage of their relationship, but just as the couple is expecting their first child together, a climate crisis begins to emerge.
Just as Mother gives birth, the crisis reaches a peak, with all of London forced to evacuate as water levels rise to the height of drowning double-decker buses.
Mother and her baby flee north, but the trailer ends with her defiantly, “I’m going home.”
The film’s official synopsis reads: “When an environmental crisis floods London, a young family is torn apart in the chaos.”
“As a woman and her newborn try to find their way home, the profound newness of motherhood is brought into sharp focus in this dystopian portrayal of family survival and hope.”
Speaking about her new role, Jodie said: ‘My character is ordinary and extraordinary, both her very personal life and the world around her have been turned upside down and she has to deal with the unknown at every turn.
‘Her story is about the quiet heroics of determination, dedication, courage and love.’
Director Mahalia Belo added: “The End We Start From is a unique and original take on a survival film. One that ties in with the climate crisis we are now experiencing.
‘It provides an honest look at the nature of a hero, someone who is forced to be brave and sometimes can’t.
“It is incredible to work with such an extraordinary cast and bring this human, primal and ultimately hopeful story to life.”

Ironically, it seems that starring in the film hasn’t kept Jodie away from the capital and it was recently reported that she has moved from her family home in Childwall, Liverpool.
A source told the Mirror: ‘Jodie is incredibly close to her family but she has decided she wants her own place. Now she has taken the step and moved.
‘She fell in love with a place in Hampstead and is enjoying making it her own.’
By moving to the lavish North London property, she will count stars such as Harry Styles and Ricky Gervais among her neighbors.
The End We Start From was developed by Benedict Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch, Hera Pictures, Anton and BBC Film. Cumberbatch and Comer are also teaming up to produce the project.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10 and currently has a score of 78 percent on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
