Joao Felix to ‘receive staggeringly LOW salary at Barcelona’ this season, after taking a huge pay cut to force through loan move from Atletico Madrid

According to reports, Joao Felix has taken a major pay cut to secure his dream transfer to Barcelona.

The 23-year-old was loaned to Catalan giants Atletico Madrid last week after previously claiming it was his ‘dream’ to play for the club.

And it’s been revealed that he had to make a significant sacrifice to get the deal done.

According to Cadena COPE journalist Pedro MorataFelix will receive just €400,000 (£342,000) for the entire season.

Felix’s decision to take the pay cut is a big boost for Barcelona, ​​whose financial problems have been well documented, with the club having to use various levers to make purchases in recent transfer windows.

Atletico will also pay Felix the equivalent of two months’ work, for the months of July and August, amounting to around €1.5 million.

Prior to joining Barcelona, ​​Felix penned a new long-term contract with Atletico that will keep him at the club until 2029.

This contract also included a 50 percent pay cut for the period 2024-2029.

Felix is ​​generally associated with huge sums of money as he became the most expensive teenager in football in the world when he joined Atletico in 2019 for £114 million.

Chelsea were prepared to bring him out again in January, paying Atletico a £9 million loan and agreeing to cover his wages for the rest of the season – believed to be around £6 million for half of the season. He will now earn less than 10 percent of this salary over a full season at Barcelona.

His spell at Stamford Bridge was largely disappointing, as the Portuguese striker was sent off on his debut against Fulham and finished with four goals in 20 appearances in all competitions.

This led to The Blues deciding not to extend his stay in west London, but he has now been snapped up by Barcelona as they look to defend their LaLiga title.

Felix made his Barcelona debut from the bench on Sunday in a 2-1 win over Osasuna, as Xavi’s men maintained their unbeaten start to the season, falling just two points behind early pace setter Real Madrid.
