Joao Cancelo has apparently left the Etihad on bad terms after blocking several prominent Man City fan accounts on social media.

The Portuguese international is closing in on a surprise move to Bayern Munich that will see the full-back on loan, and the deal will include an option to buy the player for £61.5m.

After reports that Cancelo had a furious fight on the training ground with Pep Guardiola, it seems the defender has made his feelings towards the club known with his latest actions online.

Yesterday afternoon, after news of Cancelo’s transfer broke, a Man City fan account with a large following reported that the winger’s Instagram account was “no longer active”.

However, that was not the case and the defender had actually blocked the page, meaning that his profile was not visible from his account.

The same page suggested that the advocate has “blocked many of the big city pages on Instagram.”

The news that City had decided to part ways with Cancelo came as a surprise before reports surfaced that the choice was made following a training ground spat with Pep Guardiola.

An account on Twitter claimed that Wantaway’s defender had blocked them on social media.

The full-back, who is expected to join Bayern Munich on loan, is said to have reacted angrily after learning he would not be in the starting XI for City’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal on Friday night.

Cancelo has been vocal in recent weeks about a lack of playing time and has become disruptive to the team as his relationship with Guardiola progressively deteriorated after the World Cup.

The 28-year-old Portuguese international threatened to leave the club, and such was the gravity of the situation that City gave Cancelo the green light to leave after he tabled a loan offer from Bayern with the player-manager relationship beyond repair.

City are now looking for a replacement, and losing a key team member when the window closes is not ideal, but club insiders have revealed they were left with few options.

Cancelo is currently under contract at the Etihad until 2027 and will join a Bayern side who have drawn their last three games, allowing Union Berlin to cut the gap with them at the top to just one point.

If a move goes through, Cancelo could play Mainz in the German Cup on Wednesday.

If the change before Bayern’s cup tie is too short, Julian Nagelsmann could throw it in against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
