It comes after Joan joked that she’s “holding M&S afloat” as she sends photos of her clothing purchases and carts filled with food to the company’s CEO.
She may have a reputation for high-end designer glamour, but fashion icon Dame Joan has a surprisingly down-to-earth style secret – she loves shopping at M&S.
Like millions of ordinary British women, the Dynasty star enjoys rummaging through the chain’s clothes racks and cruising the dining rooms, according to Marks and Spencer chief executive Stuart Machin.
He revealed that the star, who turned 90 last week, even sends him pictures showing what she’s buying — and jokes that her spending keeps the business afloat.
“She recently sent me a WhatsApp, ‘Just to let you know I’m keeping you going,'” he told The Mail on Sunday. “She sent me her shopping cart.”
The admiration cuts both ways, with Mr. Machin talking effusively about his famous client. Number one, I think she’s an icon. Number two, I think she’s so proudly British, and I love that she’s vocal.
“I love that she is passionate about our country. I love her whole attitude and style. But I like it even more that she is a big fan of M&S.
“She shops at M&S all the time. She buys everything, food and clothes. I think she’s an absolute star and a legend.’

Mr Machin’s friendship with Dame Joan became public in February when she complained she was nearly mowed down by a cyclist while on her way to a dinner with the M&S boss in London.
Fortunately, she arrived unharmed to participate in a meeting with actor Christopher Biggins and Mamma Mia! musical producer Judy Craymer.
Dame Joan would especially love M&S cashmere. Cardigans and jumpers in the main store cost less than £100, compared to around £900 from luxury labels.
