Actress Joan Benedict, who worked for decades in television and on stage, has died at the age of 96.

Benedict died on June 24 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from complications following a stroke, a spokesperson for the late actress’s family confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday.

Among Benedict’s most notable projects were Candid Camera, the original Steve Allen Show, soaps General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, and a theater production in which she played the late hotelier Leona Helmsley.

Benedict had had a number of high-profile Hollywood relationships. She was married to How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying actor John Myhers from 1962 until his death from pneumonia in May 1992.

Benedict was married to Academy Award winner Rod Steiger from 2000 to July 2002, when Steiger died of pneumonia and kidney failure.

‘They all died of a different form of cancer, so my memories are sometimes mixed, but without regrets.’
