JK Rowling mocks trans activists over Harry Potter show and says she has ‘stock of champagne’

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has mocked trans rights activists for not planning to watch the new TV adaptation of the series, saying she has “a large stash of champagne” to celebrate.

The author, who is reportedly worth £850million, took to Twitter to say she had “terrible news” she had to share with fans before making the derisive remarks against people in favor of equal rights for transgender people.

Rowling has been labeled as transphobic for her many claims about the LGBT+ community, including that transgender men and women should not be allowed access to same-sex spaces that match their gender.

Some trans rights advocates are now calling for a boycott of the new TV show, which will run for ten years and in which Rowling will play a leading role as producer.

She wrote on Friday: “Terrible news that I feel compelled to share. Activists I mention are trying to organize another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter TV show.

“As warned for two, I have prepared a large supply of champagne as a precaution.”

Her comments refer to some on Twitter calling on those who support transgender rights not to watch the show in solidarity with the LGBT+ community.

She later added that she is planning a “party” to celebrate the boycott, offering to message certain accounts with the details.

After the announcement of the new TV series, one user commented, “Friendly reminder that it is SO EASY to boycott Harry Potter. So easy.’

Another wrote, “Expect everything completely [you] to boycott the Harry Potter show.”

A third added: “If you all really loved Harry Potter as much as you say you do, you would do what Hermione Granger would do and boycott the company that supports a person who advocates oppression.”

“You guys just want to get behind JKR because you don’t think. Or you just hate trans people.’

The show is being created by HBO Max and will feature one series per book, to be released over a ten-year period.

The series will feature an all-new cast of characters, with none of the original film’s stars returning to screens.

This follows the three main stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, all of whom vocally support the transgender community in the wake of Rowling’s comments.

JK Rowling has been cast as an executive producer on the show, alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman, who was an executive producer on all of the Harry Potter films, is currently in talks with an executive producer.

Rowling has also drawn heavy criticism after arguing that women should not be kicked out of their jobs for views that deny the existence or validity of transgender people due to rigid beliefs about biological sex.

Daniel Radcliffe, who starred in Harry Potter, has apologized to all fans

Daniel Radcliffe, who starred in Harry Potter, has apologized to all fans “hurt” by Rowling’s comments as he strongly supported transgender rights.

In another Twitter spat, she attacked musician Billy Bragg after he retweeted a video in which Graham Norton discussed the negatives of cancellation culture and encouraged people to talk to trans children, parents and doctors before making a decision on trans issues.

Bragg, 64, shared the video, noting that Norton was “really good” at canceling culture and “JK Rowling.”

Rowling saw the tweet and attacked the singer, saying she was “enjoying the recent spate of bearded men confidently stepping on their soap box to define what a woman is and give their support to rape and death threats.”

But at no point in his first tweet did Bragg define what a woman was, simply supporting Norton’s suggestion that people discuss trans issues with the parents of trans children or doctors and psychologists rather than referencing the views of celebrities.

After Ms Rowling appeared to suggest that both Norton and Bragg were ‘misogynists’, she received widespread backlash from social media users for the allegation, for which she provided no evidence.

She also got into a fight with Nicola Sturgeon over Scottish plans to allow 16 and 17 year olds to take Gender Recognition Certificates (GRCs), sparking anger when she appeared to suggest the former SNP leader would be directly responsible are for sexual assault.

Writing for The Sunday Times, Ms Rowling said Ms Sturgeon would be held personally responsible for hypothetical cases of ‘voyeurism, sexual harassment, assault or rape’ that she believes would come out of the bill.

This comes after the author wore a t-shirt labeled Ms. Sturgeon as a ‘destroyer of women’s rights’ for introducing legislation allowing transgender people to self-identify.

She has also recently endorsed Posie Parker, also known as Kellie-Jay Keen, who claims to be a women’s rights activist.

Parker, who previously refused to describe herself as a feminist, recently embarked on a tour of Australia and New Zealand, which included dozens of neo-Nazis.

The Parker rallies featured groups of men giving Nazi salutes, and sparked new controversy last week when she claimed the whole “so-called LGBT community” is nothing more than “a bunch of damn men in dresses”.

Commenting on the new Harry Potter series, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content said, “We are excited to give audiences the opportunity to experience Hogwarts in a whole new way.”

‘Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear that there is such an enduring love and thirst for the wizarding world.

In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and JK Rowling, this new Max Original series delves deep into each of the iconic books fans have loved over the years.”

Max will produce in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
