The four-episode series interviewed Jill Duggar Dillard, the big sister of co-author Becoming Free Indeed, and delved into the 57-year-old patriarch’s close ties to the Christian fundamentalist group the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP).
Among its many strict teachings, IBLP dictates that men are the heads of their households and women are generally not allowed to have power or be involved in much more than raising children and other household chores.
“I was actually approached and asked to be on the docuseries, but I thought from my perspective I really wanted to make sure I could share my story in my own words and on my own timing,” Jinger shared. People on June 5.
‘So that’s why I [co-wrote] Becoming Free Indeed, was to share more of my journey from IBLP’s teachings. I wanted to be able to share it in a way that honors God and hopefully shares my story in a balanced way.”
On June 1, Jim Bob and his wife Michelle released an official statement denouncing the “derogatory and sensationalist” docuseries and saying that the creators had “bad intentions to hurt people we love.”
“We have always believed that the best chance to mend damaged relationships, or reconcile differences, is through love in a private setting,” the 38-year-old married couple wrote on the Duggar family blogging.
“We love every member of our family and will continue to do everything we can to have a good relationship with everyone. Through both the triumphs and the trials, we have held on to our faith all the more and discovered that through the love and grace of Jesus we find strength, comfort, and purpose.”
TLC canceled their reality show 19 Kids and Counting in 2015 after the Duggars’ oldest son, Josh known person to “touching inappropriately” five minors (including two of his sisters).
The Counting On alum discussed her “personal journey of faith in Jesus” on Takeaways with Kirk Cameron, which was technically taped on March 13 but didn’t air until Monday night on TBN.
