Jimmy Buffett’s daughter shares video commemorating the late singer on one-year anniversary of his passing
Sunday marked one year since Jimmy Buffett tragically passed away.
The iconic singer’s daughter, Delaney, 32, took the stand Instagram to remember her late father – who passed away on September 1, 2023 at the age of 76 after a four-year battle with skin cancer – by sharing a video of him cheerfully playing a song on guitar.
“Four years ago I helped my dad film a series of videos about some of his lesser known songs. Looking back, these moments with him are even more precious than I thought,” she began in the caption.
“Today we were talking about his song, Death of an Unpopular Poet. But we always got off topic, and it often led to wonderful sidetracks that taught me things I didn’t know about him. This particular song was one of my favorites because it captures his spirit so well,” she added.
She concluded, “It’s been a year, but it feels like yesterday that we were together. Life is short. Spend it with the people you love. And save all the voicemails.”
The Margaritaville singer and his wife Jane Slagsvol, who married in 1997, also have daughter Savannah, 45, and son Cameron, 30.
In 2020, Jimmy and Delaney teamed up on a joint YouTube channel and started the series Songs You Don’t Know by Heart, in which the late singer answered questions about his lesser-known music and performances.
The 32-year-old opened up Newsweek in 2020 about the series, explaining that “the idea was to film Dad and give intimate insights into songs and reminisce.
“I sit down with him one-on-one and get an unplugged version of these songs, not only to jog his memory, but also mine to remember the stories that he told,” she recalled.
“He knew some of the songs by heart, but others took a while to master,” she added.
After a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer, Jimmy passed away on September 1, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones.
According to the Mayo Clinicit is a ‘rare form of skin cancer that usually presents as a flesh-colored or bluish-red lump, often on the face, head, or neck.’ It usually occurs in older people.
An official statement was released about his social media confirming his death at the age of 76.
Jimmy became best known for his cheerful hits such as: Come Monday, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Fins, Boat Drinks and Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes.
