Jimmy Buffett estate releases cover of Bob Dylan’s Mozambique featuring Emmylou Harris as latest single from upcoming posthumous album

Less than two months after his passing, the Jimmy Buffett estate is once again promoting the late musician’s forthcoming posthumous album – Equal Strain On All Parts.

On Friday, two new tracks were released, including a cover of Bob Dylan’s 1976 single Mozambique featuring Emmylou Harris, along with an accompanying music video featuring footage of the two stars singing live in the studio.

There are also clips of the Margaritaville star in a wetsuit holding his surfboard by the ocean.

It comes just weeks after three other new songs were released, including first single Bubbles Up, along with op Like My Dog and My Gummie Just Kicked In, featuring the legendary Paul McCartney on bass.

Diagnosed with Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive skin cancer, in 2019, Buffett continued to tour and write new songs that would eventually make up the final 14-song album released before his death on September 1 at the age of 76 has been completed.

Along with Mozambique, the estate also shared the song University Of Bourbon Street, with Preservation Hall Jazz Band on Friday.

Buffett wrote 10 of the new tracks on the album himself. He also wrote one of the first group of three songs released in September, along with the three cover songs.

Angelique Kidjo, a Beninese-French singer-songwriter, actress and activist known for her diverse musical influences, also joins Buffett on the song Ti Punch Cafe.

At the time of his passing, Buffett had released 31 studio albums, including eight certified gold and nine certified platinum or multiplatinum.

Among those records, the musician had a special group of hit songs dubbed as The Big 8, which included: Margaritaville (1977), Songs Of The Century (1974), Come Monday (1974), Fins (1979), Volcano ( 1979), A Pirate Looks at Forty (1974), Cheeseburger in Paradise (1978), Why Don’t We Get Drunk (1973) and Changes in Widths, Changes in Attitudes (1977).

The Pascagoula, Mississippi native also had several other hits such as Son Of A Son Of A Sailor (1978), One Particular Harbor (1983) and It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere with Alan Jackson (2003), among others.

Named after the summer margarita, with lyrics reflecting a laid-back lifestyle in a tropical climate, Margaritaville defined Buffett’s music and career.

In total, Buffett sold more than 20 million albums during his career that spanned nearly 60 years, which began in 1964.

Known as one of the world’s richest musicians, with a net worth of $1 billion, Buffett was also a best-selling author and an entrepreneur who parlayed the ‘island escape’ lifestyle of his music into various business ventures, such as the Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant chain.

He also had ventures in hotels, casinos, liquor and retirement communities, to go along with his devoted fan base, made up mainly of baby boomers, called Parrotheads.

The new album, which was completed before his death on September 1, contains 14 songs, 10 of which were written by Buffett himself, over the course of the last few years after his cancer diagnosis; he is pictured on June 1978

The father of three entered the hospice in August, four years after his cancer diagnosis, where he had a final meeting with family and friends.

He would die on September 1 at his home in Sag Harbor, New York, surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.

“He lived his life like a song until his last breath and will be missed by so many,” a statement from the family read in part.

Buffett’s posthumous album – Equal Strain On All Parts – is expected to be released on November 3, via Mailboat Records and Sun Records.
