Jimmy Barnes shares an update on his health weeks after undergoing open heart surgery for a bacterial infection

Jimmy Barnes has updated fans on the status of his recovery, weeks after undergoing multiple procedures, including open heart surgery.

The Australian rocker, 67, posted a photo to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday of him happily posing on the edge of his bed while eating a pastry.

One of his arms was bandaged, with a tube sticking out of the mesh.

“Week 5 since spinal surgery and week 3 after open heart surgery,” the Cold Chisel frontman began.

“As for that line in my arm, they're still treating me for the infection in my bloodstream, so I'm taking all the treats I can get,” he continued.

Jimmy then revealed that his beloved wife Jane baked him the pastry which he enjoyed.

“Jane tells me it's plum galette with our honey, ground pistachio crunch and liquid cream,” he wrote.

Fans responded to the comments, sharing their relief at Jimmy's positive health update.

In November, Jimmy was forced to cancel his headlining performance at the Rock the Boat cruise festival in Noumea, New Caledonia, after being hospitalized with bacterial pneumonia.

He was subsequently forced to withdraw from his scheduled performance at By The C in Torquay on December 2 after his condition failed to improve.

Jimmy has booked a series of sold-out headlining gigs for January and February, including multiple shows at the Red Hot Summer Tour festival.

However, Jimmy confirmed late last year that his upcoming shows are likely to be halted after doctors discovered his infection had spread.

Jimmy wrote in a statement: 'Unfortunately, I received some bad news late yesterday…despite everyone's best efforts, the bacterial infection I have been battling for the past two weeks has apparently now spread to my heart.

'It has infected an otherwise healthy valve that was replaced several years ago due to a birth defect, so I will have open heart surgery in the next few hours to clear this infection and insert a clean valve.

He went on to express his frustration and shock at the diagnosis, writing, “Obviously this is going to sideline me for a while. I know a lot of other people are struggling with even worse things, but it still feels incredibly frustrating. Just a few weeks ago I was the fittest I've been in decades!

“Anyway, as I hope you can imagine, this has all happened very suddenly, so it will be a few days before everyone finds out what's possible with my upcoming shows.”
