Jim Jefferies sledges Marty Sheargold after radio star’s rant over no-show: ‘If I knew who he was, I’d be really upset’

Comedian Jim Jefferies has responded to a broadside from Melbourne radio star Marty Sheargold.

The controversial Triple M presenter blasted Seven’s The 1% Club host after he failed to show up for an interview on Monday.

“If I knew who Marty Sheargold was, I would be very upset about this whole incident,” Jefferies joked after being asked about the controversy.

The 47-year-old Australian prankster, who lives in the US, made the comment during an interview on Canberra’s Mix 106.3 on Monday.

Earlier that morning, Jefferies was due to appear on Triple M to promote a giveaway for the Australian leg of his latest stand-up show.

“Pull your fingers out and do your job, that’s what you’re here for,” an angry Sheargold told listeners after Jefferies reportedly failed to show up.

He continued, “Sell tickets to your own show. It’s not my responsibility to sell you tickets, dammit!’

After listening to a rendition of Sheargold’s spray, Jefferies joked, “Now I feel mean for saying I don’t know who Marty is.”

“I don’t have a problem with that,” he said, before sarcastically joking, “I think that’s the right response if you don’t show up.”

“I’ve never met him and I don’t know what he looks like, but he seems like he’s very angry with me, so he obviously knows me,” Jefferies said during the conversation with CBR Wrapped hosts Rod Cuddihy and Gabi Elgood.

Elsewhere in the chat, Jefferies explained that his ‘no show’ on Triple M was just a mix-up.

He had informed his management that he would be too tired to make appearances, having just flown in from the US

However, Jefferies had agreed to do telephone interviews for radio.

“For whatever reason, that information was not communicated to Marty,” Jefferies said.

“And Marty got upset and all the other radio stations knew what happened.”
