What cost of living crisis? Jim Chalmers’ wife Laura brings her fashion A-game to the Midwinter Ball in $3,375 ensemble
Laura Chalmers made sure all eyes were on her when she attended the Midwinter Ball in Canberra on Wednesday night.
With many Australians struggling due to the cost of living crisis, Mrs Chalmers was only too happy to show off her style in a $3,375 outfit as she posed alongside her husband, Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
Ms. Chalmers dressed her slender frame in a light blue Rebecca Vallance dress worth a whopping $1,500.
The streamlined model features a round neckline, a fitted waist and princess seams to emphasise her slim figure, before transitioning into a column skirt.
Apparently, Mrs. Chalmers was not a fan of the original design and decided to modify it that evening, leaving out the short cape sleeves with the embellished feather motif.
The journalist decided to keep her accessories to a minimum at the event, carrying her valuables in a $150 Oroton clutch.
Ms. Chalmers completed her striking outfit with a pair of beige ‘Nicole’ pumps from Le Silla, made from sheer mesh with a pointed toe.
The Italian-made shoes, adorned with sparkling crystals, retail for $1,725.

Elsewhere, her husband, who was treasurer, looked chic in a classic black suit.
It is not the first time that Ms Chalmers has shown off her best fashion talents at a political event.
The 40-year-old former political adviser and now magazine editor was spotted in an $899 yellow Carla Zampatti dress and matching $999 jacket when she presented the third federal budget at Parliament House in May.
She sat with their two children, Leo and Annabel, and next to Jodie Haydon, the fiancée of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Mrs. Chalmers, formerly known as Laura Anderson, worked as a press officer for former Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Foreign Minister Penny Wong before returning to her first love, journalism.
Her successful career led to her becoming national editor-in-chief of News Corp’s Saturday Weekend Magazines in November 2021.
Ms Chalmers worked as a political reporter for the Advertiser newspaper in her home city of Adelaide from January 2003 to May 2006.
She then spent almost three years in Canberra as a federal political reporter for the Advertiser, before working for Ms Wong and later Ms Gillard.
Her political career came to an abrupt end in July 2013 when Kevin Rudd ousted Ms Gillard amid an internal Labor Party struggle and became the new Prime Minister.
