Jim Carrey’s LA estate remains on the market over a year after first being listed – with ‘sanctuary’ now available for $23.95M following two price cuts

Jim Carrey’s ‘sanctuary’ Los Angeles estate, which features a tennis court and infrared sauna, has been on the market for more than a year.

The actor, 62, first put the beautiful home up for sale in February 2023 for a whopping $28.9 million, but when it didn’t sell, it underwent two price cuts.

In April of that year, $2.4 million was deducted from the asking price. In October, it underwent another price cut, with Carrey cutting the cost to $23.95 million, according to The New York Post.

Carrey lived in the house for almost thirty years before putting it on the market last year.

The Mask star bought the lavish estate in 1994, but inquired The New York Post in a statement at the time that he was ready for “changes” in his life.

‘It has been a refuge for me for thirty years, but I don’t spend much time there now and I want someone else to enjoy it as much as I do.’

He humorously added that he was ready for “Cha cha cha cha… Changes,” referring to a David Bowie hit titled: Changes.

According to the outlet, Carrey had purchased the home, located in LA’s Brentwood neighborhood, for $3.8 million in 1994.

The talented star also spoke with The Wall Street Journal last year regarding the sale of the sprawling 12,704-square-foot mansion. He said the house had been ‘a place of enchantment and inspiration’.

Reflecting on his years there, he said, “Every night the owls sang lullabies to me and every morning I sipped my cup of coffee with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine.”

The exterior of the country house offers maximum privacy for potential residents with high hedges at the front.

In addition to lush greenery and large trees providing plenty of shade outside, there’s also a waterfall pool lined with a rock wall in the backyard, perfect for staying cool in the California heat.

A spacious pool house near the beautiful pool offers a full bar, perfect for entertaining during the sweltering, hot summer days. There is also an outdoor spa with an infrared sauna and steam room, creating an oasis in itself.

The brick patio provides plenty of space for comfortable furniture such as soft sofas and tables, while potted plants line the walls of the house. A gas-fired fire table provides warmth when you stay outside at night or in cold temperatures.

As you stroll along the green grass and pass works of art placed on the freshly mowed lawn, the interior space gives off a bright and welcoming atmosphere.

For fitness enthusiasts, there is also an outdoor tennis court on site, along with a wooden meditation platform and a small lounge bed in the middle of nature.

One room that is essential to a Los Angeles home is a movie theater, which is also located indoors. Gray painted walls combined with more wood paneling and paintings showcase Carrey’s personality.

Some bedrooms have skylights or outdoor balconies to give residents picturesque views, while others have their own fireplaces for a homely atmosphere. Additional works of art, from striking paintings to statues, are placed around the house. Carrey himself is known for his passion for creating his own art.

One of the bathrooms has an Old Hollywood vibe, with both wooden floors and dark wood paneling. A fireplace could be seen next to the Jacuzzi tub, along with another skylight on the ceiling. White granite counters offer a bit of contrast to the wooden cabinets.

In total, there are five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and three half bathrooms in the home that sits on the 5-acre property.

The mention of the mansion comes after Jim revealed plans to quit acting.

During an interview with Access to Hollywood in 2022, the Bruce Almighty star casually brought up the prospect of retirement when interviewer Kit Hoover told him that Dolly Parton wanted him to play her music partner Porter Wagoner: “That’s a beautiful thing. Well, I’m retiring. Yes probably.’

When Kit asked if he was serious, he said, “I’m pretty serious.” It depends. If the angels bring some kind of script written in gold ink that says to me that it will be very important that people see it, then I may continue, but I’m taking a break.”

The star, who gained recognition in the early 1990s, admitted: “I really love my quiet life and I really love putting paint to canvas and I really love my spiritual life,” adding that regarding to his acting career: ‘I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.’

He stated that the ‘hiatus’ would begin after the release of his film Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which premiered in April 2022.
