Jim Carrey says he is willing to star in a Grinch sequel… after admitting he took Sonic for the money

Jim Carrey is willing to return for a sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas, as long as one thing happens.

He wants it to be shot in motion capture.

The 62-year-old star played the title role in the 2000 party classic, which has cult status.

The star – who recently said he starred in Sonic for the money – would only do it again if it didn’t involve the ‘excruciating’ process of applying his green alter ego’s make-up.

Jim told me ComicBook.com: “Oh god, you know, if only we could figure out the Grinch. The thing is, I do that on the day itself with tons of makeup and can barely breathe. It was an extremely unbearable process.’

He continued, “The kids were on my mind all the time. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’

“And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could have the freedom to do other things. Everything is possible in this world.’

How the Grinch Stole Christmas proved to be a hit at the box office, but the effort it took to get Carrey into character was also grueling for makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji – who found the ‘Bruce Almighty’ star difficult to work with.

Tsuji told Vulture in 2018: “In the makeup trailer, he suddenly stands up and looks in the mirror, and pointing to his chin he says, this color is different from what you did yesterday.

‘I used the same color as yesterday.

“He says, ‘Fix it.’ And okay, you know, I solved it. Every day was like that.’

Jim has made his movie comeback as villain Dr. Robotnik in the new movie ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ and revealed that he did this because he needed the money after exhausting his savings.

He told reports when asked why he has come out of ‘retirement’.

“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, and that’s quite a challenge.

“And you know what, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, honestly.”

Carrey revealed while promoting the second “Sonic the Hedgehog” film in 2022 that he was “pretty serious” about his plans to retire from acting.

The “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” star explained, “Well, I’m retiring. Yes, probably. I’m pretty serious.

‘It depends. If the angels bring some kind of script written in gold ink that says to me that it will be very important that people see it, then I may continue, but I’m taking a break.”

Carrey continued, “I really love my quiet life and I really love putting paint to canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like – and this is something that you may never hear from another celebrity saying as long as time exists – I have enough .

‘I’ve done enough. I am enough.’
