Jill Biden shrugged off a blow to the foot at a youth soccer clinic on the South Lawn on Monday, as President Joe Biden made a surprise pop-in to greet the players.
The first lady watched from the sidelines as kids played a game of fetch as the ball bounced off her foot and swung straight back into the action. She shrugged, smiled, and seemed unharmed.
Biden, dressed in a soccer jersey with FLOTUS 46 written across his back, held the event in conjunction with the MLS holding its All-Star Game at Washington’s Audi Field on Wednesday.
The clinic is “part of her ongoing effort to highlight how sport unites us and supports and empowers young people,” the East Wing said.

The event also comes as the White House prepares for the Women’s World Cup, which begins this week in Australia and New Zealand. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will lead the US delegation, but Jill Biden told avid soccer fans she would be cheering from home.
“When we work as one team to score that point, or cheer on our team, sport unites us across backgrounds and boundaries. There are no strangers in the stands or on the field,” Biden said.
A few hundred pre-teen children attended the clinic, engaged in drills and games of fetch.
It was a warm night in DC, but there was plenty of water, lemonade, and goldfish snacks to feed and hydrate the kids.
Soccer stars Christian Benteke, Lucho Acosta, Kei Kamara, Jordan Morris, Hany Mukhtar, Walker Zimmerman, Ryan Hollingshead and Tim Parker were there to help with skills and answer questions from the kids.

After making comments, the first lady walked around the South Lawn to talk to the young players and watch them in action.
As they mingled, President Biden walked out of the White House, much to the delight of the children, many of whom shouted “Joe Biden.”
The president spent about 20 minutes taking selfies and chatting with the adult soccer stars and the young players.
He and Jill Biden posed for a group photo with all the clinic participants before heading back inside for the evening.
