Jill Biden is touring Egypt on birthday after attending Jordan’s royal wedding

The First Lady Jill Biden enjoyed sightseeing with her daughter Ashley Biden at the Pyramids and Sphinx of Egypt on her 72nd birthday after attending the Jordanian Crown Prince’s royal wedding.

President Biden posted a photo on Twitter for her birthday showing him presenting the First Lady with a yellow flower and calling her “Jilly.”

As part of her trip to the Middle East, the First Lady and her daughter attended the wedding of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania’s son, Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Princess Rajwa, held at Zahran Palace in Amman, Jordan .

While sightseeing days later, the First Lady dressed in a smart lightweight floral dress with fashionable sneakers, Biden looked relaxed and happy as she posed next to Ashley and sister Bonny Jacobs at the Giza Pyramids.

The First Lady was also seen near the Sphinx as she toured the Egyptian complex. The weather on Saturday was sunny with temperatures in the mid-80s. She was accompanied by US Ambassador John Desrocher, Egypt’s Tourism and Antiquities Minister Ahmed Issa and head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri.

The Bidens have a long-standing friendship with the Prince’s parents.

When King Abdullah’s son was a student in Georgetown, Biden and King Abdullah met for breakfast, they have remained friends over the years and often visited each other.

Since Biden has been president, the two have met twice at the White House and once in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Associated Press reported.

On Friday, the First Lady and her daughter and sister wore the traditional headscarf during a tour of Cairo’s Al-Azhar Mosque. The mosque has Islamic architectural designs dating from the 10th to 19th centuries.

Dr. Mohammed Al Mahrasawy, the head of Al Azhar University, accompanied them through the Sunni Muslim Mosque known as the world’s premier Islamic institution.

Sunni Islam is the largest branch of Islam and is followed by the majority of Muslims.

The itinerary also included a stop at El Sewedy International Applied Technology School, just outside Cairo, to visit the students and its teachers.

Biden was greeted warmly and a welcome poster was hung on the wall. She signed it and said, “You’re all amazing… Good luck.”

She arrived in the Middle East on Wednesday, her first visit there in her role as First Lady.

It is part of a six-day journey that also includes North Africa and Europe to promote women and youth empowerment. In February she went to Kenya and Namibia.

In Egypt and Morocco, she has been busy meeting with female educators and youth in an effort to support education programs and boost economic opportunities, the AP reported.

Her next stop is Portugal, where she is expected to join the U.S. Department of State for the 60th anniversary of the Art in Embassies program, which draws attention to the role art can play in diplomacy.

“The First Lady believes that supporting youth around the world is critical to our common future, centered around education, health and empowerment,” said First Lady spokesperson Vanessa Valdivia.

“With her visit to the Middle East and North Africa, the First Lady will continue to build on her work to empower young people, reaffirming our commitment to strengthening our partnerships and advancing our shared priorities in the region. ‘
