Aston Villa were reduced to ten men for the first half of their visit to Newcastle on Boxing Day as Jhon Duran was believed to have deliberately stamped on Fabian Schar.
The controversial moment came when Duran attempted a through ball with Villa already 1-0 down thanks to an Anthony Gordon goal in the second minute.
Schar slid in to clear the ball to safety and left himself underneath the Villa striker.
Duran tried to tangle his feet before connecting with his studs three times.
Fans were divided over whether he intended to do so, but the referee waved the red card for violent conduct, which was confirmed by VAR.
Duran was clearly far from impressed with the decision as he waited for the VAR ruling and expressed his anger when it came to light.

The defeat leaves Unai Emery’s men in eighth place, while Newcastle are now fifth, four points behind Arsenal in fourth.
