Jetts gym divides customers with new rule: ‘We will ask you to leave’

A gym has divided Australians after informing their customers that Crocs and slides were banned.

Jetts Fitness Freedom gym on the Gold Coast, Queensland, posted a sign at the front of the gym explaining that Crocs and Slides were considered inappropriate footwear.

“Please note that Crocs and Slides are not accepted footwear,” the sign read.

“If you are caught wearing the wrong footwear, we will ask you to leave the gym.”

A gym-goer shared a photo of the sign on Reddit on Saturday and said they agreed with the gym’s shoe policy.

“I agree that people who go to the gym should always wear sneakers,” they wrote.

Others agreed with the gym’s sign, saying the rule is for insurance purposes and also helps clients avoid injuries.

‘I work in cleaning at a gym, and that is a safety issue. Not only to protect your feet, but also to protect others from odors, bacteria and fungi from your sweaty feet,” said someone.

“They are not practical at all in the gym, closed shoes have always been the standard,” a second person wrote.

“But honestly, they don’t want to pay for the injuries caused by this unnecessary behavior,” said a third.

A fourth joked: ‘Good. Anyone wearing either should be sent to jail immediately.”

However, others argued that Crocs offered more protection than an average sneaker.

“I can’t stand crocodiles, but dropping a 20kg weight on a crocodile covered foot versus a foot wearing trainers will produce the same result!” one person wrote.

“More padding and protection on the top of a crocodile than on the top of a runner,” a second person added.

A third said: ‘I’d rather drop something on my feet or wear crocodiles than sneakers.’

Some people claimed that wearing Crocs helped them maintain proper form when performing certain exercises, such as squats and deadlifts.
