The Jets sign Mecole Hardman to a ‘one-year contract up to $6.5 million’ as the catcher leaves the Chiefs after winning the second Super Bowl in Kansas City
The Jets have added another pass catcher to an already talented receiving corps, signing Mecole Hardman to a one-year contract.
The contract is worth up to $6.5 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Hardman played the first four years of his career with the Chiefs and won his second Super Bowl in February when Kansas City beat the Eagles 38-25.
However, Hardman did not play in that game due to injury.
The 2019 second-round pick was productive for the Chiefs, with a total of 2,088 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, including a career-best 693 yards in 2021.

Hardman played just eight regular-season games last season for the Chiefs while struggling with injuries.
The signing comes after the Jets agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract to sign former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard, possibly reuniting him with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
And the Jets’ receiving corps wasn’t in terrible shape before, either.
Garrett Wilson had 1,103 yards and four touchdowns in a terrific rookie season, while Corey Davis had 32 catches for 536 yards.
Hardman could soon join Rodgers in New York, as the Packers quarterback recently stated his desire to play for the Jets on the Pat McAfee Show.
However, the two teams have yet to reach an agreement on terms, with ProFootballTalk reporting that Green Bay was having a difficult time in negotiations, calling for a ‘first round pick and more’ from the Jets for the 39-year-old.
