Jets holdout Haason Redick – who’s already been fined over $5 million – to forfeit another $800,000 for missing opener against the 49ers
- Haason Redick has not reported to the Jets since being traded to New York
- He is in the last year of his current contract and wants a pay rise
Jets linebacker Haason Redick will be fined nearly $800,000 for every game he misses due to his current ineligibility.
Redick, who arrived in New York on April 1 after being traded from the Eagles, has yet to play or practice with his new team as he seeks a new contract (his current deal expires after this season).
And that streak will continue Monday night when the Jets open their season at the 49ers, with Redick forfeiting $791,666 to be exact.
Redick, who was set to make $14.25 million this season, has already cost himself millions of dollars by being absent from Jets activities this spring and summer.
As noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefterhe has already been fined more than $5 million. These fines are set forth in the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
Haason Redick has yet to report to the Jets after being traded by the Eagles in April
Redick is a two-time Pro Bowler and has recorded 11+ sacks in each of his last four seasons
The Jets believed they were bolstering their pass rush when they sent a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Eagles for Redick, who has scored 50.5 points over the past four seasons.
However, Redick has been missing since the spring and there is no end in sight (he even requested a trade last month, but the Jets said they will not honor it).
Former Browns GM Mike Lombardi reported Friday that Redick would report to his new team, but that did not happen.
“I maintain that we will welcome him with open arms when he gets here,” head coach Robert Saleh said ahead of the season opener.
“We’re going to love him and he’s going to be part of this football team and he’s going to help us win a lot of football games. He has to handle the financial stuff, but that’s not my business.”
Redick was spotted at a charity event in Jersey City last week, leading to speculation that he would soon return to the team.
Despite this, the otherwise well-performing Jets will face the reigning NFC champion 49ers on Monday without him.
