Jessica Lange is seen in a wheelchair after opening up about her retirement while walking with BFF Susan Sarandon in New York City

Best friends Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon were spotted taking a stroll in New York City on Saturday.

The Tootsie actress, 74, was in a wheelchair and was pushed by a woman wearing a red beret.

The legendary actress — who returns to Ryan Murphy's limited series Feud for its second season — wore taupe cotton pants, a black puffer jacket and black sneakers as she was rolled down the sidewalk.

Sarandon, 77, walked comfortably next to her in jeans and a black motorcycle jacket with flowers on it. A maroon sweater peeked out from under the hem of the jacket.

The Thelma & Louise star added a multi-colored scarf and black newsboy hat to her boho-chic ensemble.

It is unclear whether the two-time Academy Award winner suffered an injury or not.

The two actresses worked together in 2017 as Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in Ryan Murphy's Feud.

And while they've known each other for decades, this is the only time the two screen icons have worked together.

The women have maintained their relationship for seven years after being at each other's throats in the 2017 limited series Feud.

The FX drama focused on the film adaptation of the Oscar-winning drama and the alleged animosity between the film's leading ladies.

Feud creator Ryan Murphy told it New York Times at the time, “It was a lot of fun having those two women and having a leadership position on set.”

“Because make no mistake, when you do a show with those two, they have a lot of opinions, and they're always right because they've been around each other for a long time.”

Both Susan and Jessica worked as producers on the series. It was only the second time the Tootsie actress took on an official behind-the-scenes role, but Susan has more than a nap with producing credits to her name, including two of her most beloved films, Stepmom and Moonlight Mile .

In October, the King Kong actress revealed that she planned to retire from acting after more than four decades and many accolades.

Jessica first came to prominence in the 1976 King Kong remake, which earned her a Golden Globe Award despite the film's mixed reviews.

Jessica has two Academy Awards for Best Actress to her name – for 1982's Tootsie and 1994's Blue Sky – and five Golden Globe wins.

But now, after 47 years on the big screen, Jessica plans to gradually phase out her roles.

She cited the reasons behind her decision as a lack of “creativity” in the film industry as studios try to increase profits from art.

In an interview with The Telegraph, she said: “Creativity is now secondary to corporate profits. The emphasis is not on the art or storytelling. It's about satisfying your shareholders.

“I'm not interested in these big comic book franchise movies. I think they have sacrificed this art that we are involved in… for the sake of profit.”

Feud creator Ryan Murphy told the New York Times at the time, “It was a lot of fun having those two women and having a leadership position on set.”

Jessica also believes that ageism is a problem in the film industry and criticizes the editing styles of modern films, which she sees as too 'hectic'.

Overall, she added, changing attitudes have led to the loss of “beautiful films” and “beautiful stories” – and she now wants to leave the acting world.

Her plans to retire are coming very gradually, however, as she first announced the move in 2013 and stated that she would only appear in one more season of American Horror Story – and that's not what happened – she returned to the series for five more seasons, eventually leaving after season eight in 2018.

And she's still not quite ready to give up acting. She returns for season two of Feud and is still set to appear in Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night and a Marlene Dietrich biopic.
