Jessica Chastain plays a broken single mother in the trailer for her new movie Memory

In her new film Memory, Jessica Chastain portrays a social worker and single mother whose life is thrown into chaos when a young man with dementia follows her home.

The trailer for Michel Franco’s independent drama was released on Tuesday, also starring Peter Sarsgaard.

The production is a drama that highlights family trauma and bonding, with Chastain playing a character named Sylvia.

Her lifestyle is a cycle of taking care of her daughter, going to AA meetings, and working first.

That all changes after an unexpected meeting with Saul (played by Sarsgaard).

The encounter leads to the re-emergence of childhood memories and past experiences.

One scene shows Saul’s niece asking Chastain’s character if she can take care of her uncle during the day.

The two main characters eventually form an emotional bond, which complicates the way they interact with each other.

“Their surprising encounter will have a profound impact on both of them as they open the door to the past,” according to a description on IMDb.

In the teaser, Sylvia asks Saul, “Why did you follow me home from the party?” Or do you only remember it when it suits you?’

The effects of the dementia are depicted in a series of scenes that leave Sarsgaard’s character perplexed.

The film stars Merritt Wever, Brooke Timber, Jessica Harper, Josh Charles and Elsie Fisher.

For the film, Jessica went without a makeup crew, had no personal trailer and secured her own wardrobe for the New York film set.

Memory marks Jessica’s first appearance since her Oscar-winning role in The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.

“We had the Oscars and I won for Tammy Faye, and right after that I showed up on set to play Memory.

“Michel said a lot of people told him, ‘Oh Jessica is going to leave your movie because she just won an Oscar,'” she later explained.

The upcoming film will be released on December 22 in New York and Los Angeles before hitting theaters nationwide on January 5.
