In Memory, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, the actress plays a single mother and social worker named Sylvia, who must confront her traumatic past when she has a surprising encounter with an old classmate, Saul.
Sylvia is a recovering alcoholic who works at an adult daycare center.
Jessica explained that the film had a super low budget, that she did her own hair and makeup, and bought her costumes at Target and thrift stores.
“I did my own hair… It was such a nice change from all the makeup in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and the Oscars.”
In the film, she attends her high school reunion and Saul follows her home but does not remember her because he has early-onset dementia.
To prepare for the role, Jessica worked at an adult daycare center in New York City, which allowed her to focus on her character's life and the budget a social worker would have for her clothing and lifestyle.
Jessica expanded on her role during a virtual Q&A with Film independentsaying, “With Sylvia, so much is about how we meet her and how she walks through life and leads.
“She leads with trauma, she leads with the memory of her past. She leads with shame.

“She's a down-to-earth person, and has been that way for thirteen years, and I really had to fill in the blanks of what her life was, to make it as specific as possible.
'The questions: What really happened to her?
“If you make something feel like you're understanding memories as if they were your own, it helps me play the character.”
Memory opens in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 22 and is released nationally on January 5.
