Aussie Olympics queen Jess Fox reveals why she used to hate the way she looks – and the moment that made her change her mind

  • Since then she has become a fashion model and a household name
  • Reveals the moments that make her feel truly beautiful

She’s become a catwalk model, the face of an international beauty brand and a TV presenter, but Olympic champion Jess Fox has made the stunning admission that she once hated her appearance.

Fox enjoyed a triumphant campaign at the Paris Games, carrying the Australian flag at the opening ceremony before claiming historic gold medals in both the K1 and C1 events.

Since Paris, Fox has taken part in glamorous magazine shoots, including appearing on the cover of Stellar magazine, where she confidently showed off her athletic figure in stylish outfits.

Additionally, Fox will make her fashion show debut by walking the L’Oréal Paris Walk Your Worth Runway event. This catwalk event will be held against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour, on Thursday.

She also had the opportunity to present sports news on Channel Nine’s Today show.

It’s attention that Fox is still struggling to adapt to.

In an interview with Channel Nine she admitted that she hated a part of herself, despite now working for one of the largest beauty companies in the world.

“I grew up hating my curls,” Jess said.

‘It was all about straight, wavy hair, so I had to work a lot on embracing my curls. I know a lot of people do that.’

Now Fox has embraced herself as an emotional, makeup-free Olympian, or as a runway model.

In fact, she now says that the emotional images of her, with tears streaming down her face, messy hair and Olympic gold around her neck, show her how beautiful she once was.

“When I saw pictures from the Olympics and saw myself looking like a bit of a blubbering mess… in the past I probably would have thought, ‘Oh my god, that’s embarrassing,'” she said.

‘But that’s actually very nice. I had no makeup on, but I could see the joy shining in my smile.

“I think I’ve felt the most beautiful when I’m being myself.”

Fox and her sister Noemie have come a long way since growing up in western Sydney as complete strangers.

They are now both Olympic champions, with Jess jumping into the water to celebrate her sister’s success in a lasting image of the Paris Games.

It’s made them household names and Jess admitted she’s still struggling to come to terms with it.

“I feel like my face is all over the place right now, which was crazy,” she said.

It didn’t all go smoothly. During a recent fashion photo shoot, she revealed that strapping tape was needed to fit into the glamorous dresses because her shoulders were too wide for it.

And she admitted she had doubts about her L’Oréal debut.

‘I’m a little nervous about it, especially when I’m in heels. “I’m not sure what heels I’m wearing yet, but I’m hoping they’re not 12-inch stilettos,” she said.

‘I have so many factors for myself. Yes, I’m an athlete, I’m fierce and focused on the water, but I can also feel feminine and glamorous and step into this other side of me that not many people have seen.”
