JP Morgan has admitted that Jes Staley had “inappropriate” personal conversations with Jeffrey Epstein over his work email.
In court documents filed in New York, the Wall Street giant said the former boss of its private bank used his work email to get in touch with the pedophile financier.
But it added that the emails did not indicate that minors were the victims or that “violence, fraud or coercion” was used against women.

The court documents come just a week after the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) disclosed email exchanges alleging that Staley — who became Barclays boss after leaving JP Morgan — drank white wine in a hot tub on the private Caribbean island of Epstein while Epstein was still in prison for child crimes.
In November 2009, Staley wrote, “Right now I’m in the bubble bath with a glass of white wine. This is a great place. I owe you a lot. And I really value our friendship. I have few that are so profound.’
Between 2008 and 2012, Staley exchanged about 1,200 emails with Epstein from his J.P. Morgan account, with the pair also having conversations about “Disney princesses” Epstein trying to pursue.
Staley became the boss of Barclays in 2015. Six years later, he was ousted following a regulatory investigation into how he typified past ties to his former client.
In JP Morgan’s filing asking a judge to dismiss USVI’s lawsuit, the bank said the emails do not prove any unlawful conduct on the bank’s part.
Staley has repeatedly denied knowing about Epstein’s sexual abuse. His lawyer declined to comment.
