Jerry Jones reveals what was really said in conversations with Deion Sanders over Cowboys job

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones lifted the lid during his meeting with Dion Sanders in the midst of their search for the next head coach in Dallas.

After saying goodbye to Mike McCarthy, Jones interviewed the Pro Football Hall of Famer and the current Colorado Buffaloes -coach for the vacancy that Sportmedia sent in a razing.

The position was eventually fulfilled by the newly hired coach Brian Scottenheimer, who was promoted from his attacking coordinator position with the team.

In the introductory press conference of Scottenheimer, Jones seemed to be the meeting with Sanders as a ‘conversation’ between old friends.

‘Just a conversation about the team, and about where he is, and his boys, conversation with his boys, that kind of conversation. I said that I spoke with many coaches and Dion has a job. ‘

After coaching Jackson State from 2020-2022, Sanders signed a five-year-old $ 29.5 million deal to coach the Buffaloes.

Although he suffered a 4-8 season in his first year, Sanders brought many eyes to the team. Last season the Buffaloes ended with a 9-4 record with Shedeur Sanders and Heisman winner Travis Hunter who led the Stampede.

Dallas saw the late season in each of the previous seasons under McCarthy. They also went three-5 three years in a row, but only had one play-off victory during his term of office.

With their last title in 1995, teamowner Jerry Jones is determined about the need for a championship. After what he called a ‘joint review’, the cowboys decided that it was time to continue McCarthy.

“Last week, Mike and I had the opportunity to perform a joint assessment of all aspects of the past season, our players and employees, and also spent a lot of time discussing the road forward for the team,” Said Jones.

“Prior to reaching the point of contract negotiations, it became clear mutually that it would be better for each of us to go in a different direction.”

The position was also linked to former cowboys tight end Jason Witten before Scottenheimer was selected to fill the vacancy.
