Jerod Mayo’s wife in furious Instagram outburst days after New England Patriots fired her husband

Chantel Mayo, the wife of fired former New England Patriots coach Jerod, has called out “lies” about her husband’s abrupt firing on Sunday night.

Mayo was let go by the Patriots hours after a 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills in which New England lost the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Reports have since emerged about how Mayo struggled in his first season as head coach, with one report claiming he played cards on a flight home after a loss instead of analyzing the tape.

Now Chantel has taken to Instagram to defend her husband, posting in all caps on her story: ‘It never occurred to us to tell the truth… but I couldn’t fathom all the lies we’ve read. told to save face.

Chantel Mayo, the wife of fired former Patriots coach Jerod, has responded on social media

‘What happened to the class????? Since Sunday we have been taking matters into our own hands and letting everyone do their own thing.

‘But playing with someone’s name is not tolerated. I bet the fake stories will stop before the real ones start…’

Patriots owner Robert Kraft said firing Mayo was one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do in his time running the franchise.

‘I have known Jerod for seventeen years. “He earned my respect and admiration as a rookie in 2008 and throughout his career for his play on the field, his leadership in the locker room and the way he conducted himself in our community,” Kraft said.

“When he joined our coaching staff, his leadership was even more evident when I saw how the players responded to him. When other teams started requesting to interview him, I feared I would lose him and vowed to make him our next head coach.

“Winning our season opener on the road in Cincinnati only strengthened my beliefs. Unfortunately, our team’s performance throughout the season did not go as I had hoped.”

The Patriots finished the season with a 4-13 record and Mike Vrabel is among the favorites to replace Mayo.

But the organization also announced that they had interviews with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson on Friday – the last of their scheduled interviews.
