Jeremy Renner marks ‘ReBirthday’ on emotional 2 year anniversary of his near-fatal snowplow accident

It’s been two years since Jeremy Renner was hit and nearly crushed by a seven-ton snow plow on his property near Reno, Nevada.

The Mayor of Kingstown actor, 53, shared a photo from that time in his life on Instagram and wrote about the gratitude he has for everyone who fought so hard to save his life.

‘Happy New Year to you all…. Today marked my second ‘ReBirthday,'” his caption began.

“I send out my love, respect and gratitude to the army of people it took to bring me back together. Thank you to every nurse, doctor, first responder… I literally owe you my life.

“My whole heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who came to my rescue and endured the chaos for 45 minutes on the icy asphalt on New Year’s morning.”

Renner’s emotional post continued: “I’m so sorry for all the terrifying images I’ve instilled in all of you (I’ll spare you all the meat grinding images)….”

“My gratitude list is very long…. With the amount of love and prayers pouring in from you all over the world (I need them all), my family never leaves my side, with a divine intervention, a little luck and a lot of miracles… strong again,” wrote he.

The Hurt Locker star’s love and gratitude shone through his words as he shared how he rebuilt his life after that fateful accident on New Year’s Day.

‘More open. More loved. More connected. And damn BLESSED to take my next step, to take MY NEXT BREATH. Thank you with every fiber and cell in my body. I love you all .”

On January 1, 2023, Renner’s home near Reno hit a snowstorm and he and his cousin Alex Fries went out to plow the snow.

His cousin loosened the chain connecting the car to the plow, but Renner could not see him and was concerned for his safety.

He started to worry that the team would roll into Alex and in an attempt to get back into the team to make the emergency stop, he was run over.

Renner was motionless and in critical condition while his cousin and neighbors stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

Renner’s injuries included a collapsed lung, a lacerated liver and more than thirty broken bones due to the blunt force trauma he suffered to his chest in the accident.

After the accident he had to learn to walk again. In an interview with Diane Sawyer at the time, he said, “I chose to survive.”

He also said he refused to “let that memory haunt him.”

The snowplow that ran him over weighed 14,300 pounds.

“It waves because there are four tire sections with metal tracks; he pulls it like a tank. I remember every undulation, he said Men’s health last summer.

“I remember cracking my head on the thing and it just pressing against me – it’s exactly what you think it would feel like. An immovable object and a crushing force, and something has to give.”

Jeremy didn’t spare the gruesome details, but he did express gratitude that somehow it could have turned out worse than it actually was.

He continued, “But thank God my skull didn’t give in at all. And then it kept going. Waves, waves, waves, waves.’

‘Cheekbone broke, eye socket broke, and the crushing feeling of being run over by the machine made my eye bulge. With my right eye I could see my left eye. I screamed for breath.’

The star went into detail about how he tried to breathe as hard as he could, but everything he did just wasn’t working.

He said: ‘There was no breathing. It’s difficult to use your abdominal muscles when you have fourteen broken ribs and a collapsed lung. I don’t know this at the time – I just needed air. I was going through my body’s checklist and fucking figured it out.”

When the EMTs arrived, he surrendered his body to them. The recovery was long and difficult, but Renner had a remarkable perspective on it.

He said, “The only thing we can control in our lives is our perspective.”
