Jeremy Clarkson reveals that he emailed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to tell them that he is “deeply sorry” for the column that said the Duchess of Sussex should be publicly shamed.

  • The TV host faced fierce backlash for his newspaper column about Meghan
  • Prince Harry recently called Clarkson’s comments about his wife ‘horrible’
  • Clarkson says she emailed the couple to apologize again in an Instagram post.

Jeremy Clarkson says he emailed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Christmas Day to apologize for saying he hated Meghan and dreamed of her being paraded through British cities being publicly shamed.

The 62-year-old Grand Tour presenter had expressed his distaste for the 41-year-old former actress in his column in The Sun newspaper.

It sparked a furore and Harry himself accused the Clarkson’s Farm star of inciting violence towards women.

Both he and the newspaper had already apologized for the post last month.

Clarkson took to Instagram today to reveal that she had emailed the royal couple again to apologize.

But today he repeated how sorry he was in a lengthy statement on his verified Instagram account.

Clarkson said he did not read the column he had written before submitting it to The Sun for publication.

He said he emailed the couple on Christmas Day to say his language in the column had been “embarrassing” and that he was “deeply sorry.”

He said: ‘One of the strange things I’ve noticed of late is that whenever a parliamentarian or a well-known person is asked to apologize for something, no matter how sincere or profound that apology may be, it is never enough for the people who asked for it in the first place.

“So I’m going to try to buck the trend this morning with an apology for the things I said in a Sun column recently about Meghan Markle. I really feel it. All the way from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head. This is me raising my hands. It is a mea culpa with bells on.

Michelle Donelan insisted that she did not

Michelle Donelan insisted that she did not “align” with the TV presenter’s comments about Meghan, but the Culture Secretary promised to “always defend” freedom of the press.

‘I usually read what I’ve written to someone else before applying, but on that fateful day I was home alone and in a hurry. So when I was done, I just hit submit. And then when the column showed up the next day, the land mine exploded.

Clarkson’s column was published last year and drew criticism from high-profile political figures, including her own daughter, Emily Clarkson.

It quickly became the most denounced article of the Independent Press Standards Organization.

In its apology, The Sun said: ‘Jeremy Clarkson wrote a commentary piece on the Duchess of Sussex. It provoked a strong response and led to a large number of complaints to Ipso, the regulator of the independent press.

“In a tweet earlier this week, Jeremy said he had made an ‘awkward reference to a scene in Game of Thrones’, that he had “resonated with a lot of people” and that he was “appalled to have caused so much damage.” He also said that he will be more careful in the future.

The opinions of the ‘columnists’ are their own, but as editors we know that freedom of expression entails a responsibility. We at The Sun regret the publication of this article and are sincerely sorry.

The newspaper added that the article had also been removed from its archives, as well as from its website.

Clarkson’s original apology on Twitter on December 19 read: ‘OMG. I prefer to put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made an awkward reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down well with a lot of people. I am horrified that I have caused so much damage and I will be more careful in the future.’
