Danger! fans couldn’t help but have a field day over one contestant’s surprisingly poor response to a simple athletics clue on Tuesday.

High school teacher David Kaye was the victim of online ridicule after giving an answer that wouldn’t be humanly possible to a question in the category titled “You can keep an eye on things.”

The English instructor was in third place when he bet $1,000 on a Daily Double, but apparently didn’t take advantage of the clue.

The clue read: ‘1964 was the first time a man threw it 90 meters and the first time a woman threw it 600 meters.’

Kaye’s first guess was, “What is shot put?”

It was up to presenter Ken Jennings to deliver the bad news and replied: ‘Ah no, I’m sorry. “What is a spear.”

Viewers at home couldn’t help but share their amused reactions as they teased Kaye for believing shot put distances could become so long.

The current world record for shot put is 23 meters, so the thought that someone could throw it over a distance almost the size of a football field baffled many.

One Twitter user commented, “This guy on Jeopardy really thought someone threw the shot put 300 feet????”

‘I jumped off the bench when he said ‘shot put’, another wrote, while a third agreed: ‘RIGHT!?!?!?!?!? My wife thought I was overreacting!’

One viewer commented: ‘Not to mention in the ‘you could keep an eye on things’ category. What a maroon (sic)!’

Another joked: ‘I’m wondering, while I’m scratching my head, what gym makes people strong enough to throw the 60 meter shot put? I think I want a membership.”

The participant incorrectly guessed the shot put when given the clue: ‘In 1964 a man threw it 90 meters for the first time and the first time a woman threw it 600 meters’

Fans teased Kaye for believing shot put distances could reach such lengths. The correct answer was ‘spear’

“Who throws a shot put at 100 meters?” one viewer laughed.

Another fan shared, “I just watched the last two episodes of Jeopardy on my DVR and both saw someone guess the shot put when the answer was the javelin. Foreign.’

Kaye now joins the long list of contestants who have become known for their blunders over the years.

The iconic game show first hit screens in 1964 and has since seen countless memorable failures with viewers.

Season 40 of Jeopardy began on September 11, with new episodes airing on weekdays.
