Jennifer Nettles will play a “leading role” in the upcoming revival trilogy of the 1973 cult classic The Exorcist nearly five decades later.

The 48-year-old Sugarland singer will join the cast to play an unknown but “main” role in the upcoming trilogy, which continues as a sequel to the classic 1973 horror film The Exorcist.

The country star will star alongside Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett and Ellen Burstyn, who will reprise her role as the mother of the young woman who is possessed in the original film.

His role has yet to be revealed, but he will reportedly be a major part of the sequel.

The Righteous Gemstones actress is best known for her music as part of the country music duo Sugarland and Broadway performances in the critically acclaimed Waitress and Chicago.

The upcoming movie will be directed by David Gordon Green, who previously revived the movies in the Halloween franchise.

In an interview with colliderGreen revealed that the plan is to tell the story following the original.

He revealed that Leslie Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child this time around.

‘Desperate for help, [his character] it tracks Burstyn’s character, whose young daughter was possessed by an evil entity known as Pazuzu in the first film,” he said.
